Key will not turn

Key will not turn
Afternoon brothers and sisters. I have an 05 S55 and the key will not turn the ignition. Matter-of-fact, the car seems to not recognize the key....I can't access any of the car's functions. I purchased a new key (to the tune of $265) and it doesn't work either. I called the dealership and they suggested perhaps the electronic ignition system has gone bad. Replacement cost about $1200. Have any of you experienced this symptom. Any recommendations?

Sounds like the EIS (ignition switch) has gone bad which does happen. For sure its an drive authorization problem that involves EIS, ECU module, and gear select module. It needs to go on SDS (Star diagnostics) to see what is wrong as it may be one of the other modules mentioned.
I assume you don't have keylessGo? If so, does it work? The KeylessGo module authorizes the EIS to allow a start.
$1200 is too much I think.
EIS switch is about $650, 1 hour of Star and 20 min to change out the EIS labor does not add up to $1200.
Try and find someone with SDS.

Thanks for the response. Yes, she does have keyless go and that function is also inoperable. Part two of the problem is I can't get her into neutral so I can load her onto a flatbed. Any recommendations? I think there's is a way to disassemble the gearshift to place the vehicle into neutral??
