Questions from a new AMG owner
Hey everyone, I just got a 2012 S63 a couple of weeks ago and after reading about it online and such, I have a few questions that I hope someone will answer.
1. What's the difference between shifting with paddles while in S mode vs in M mode?
2. Why does this car have no S+ mode like in a CLS63 or E63? Does it really matter?
3. When rolling from 50 km/h or so, what's the best gear and rpm to floor it from to get maximum acceleration?
4. What does kickdown do and is it good to use it, or if I want maximum response and acceleration should I press the gas until right before it clicks to activate kickdown?

Assuming the modes work as they do in my 2007 E63
In any mode, to downshift to the best gear for max acceleration, hold the gear lever to the left for one second.
You'll hit the rev limiter in M mode if you do not shift in time.
In S mode the transmission will upshift depending on throttle position.
For all out acceleration use S mode and kickdown.
To fine tune the transmission response in the twisties or on the track use M mode.
The transmission will adapt to your driving style.
