W221 S63 AMG Buying Tips

Hello everyone,

I drive a 1999 W140 S500 and I was looking at upgrading to a 2007 or newer S63 AMG. What are the pit falls of these cars? I have read some info on the lawsuit for the premature wear but there are few details about the validity of the claim. I assume the premature idler gear issues are not found in AMG motors. Bad assumption? Do they suffer from the transmission issues of the other W221 cars? How are the suspensions enduring on these cars?

Any advice would be great....

thanks,

Mark

I'd say the biggest things to watch out for is the ABC suspension as people have encountered many issues with this and the cost of maintenance is 4x that of a S550.

Call a dealership and find out some of the regular maintenance items such as brakes etc. In April I just replaced 4 rotors and pads for $9500 CAD. ABC struts are around $2k CAD each.

Thanks for the reply. I did not know that it was that big of a difference. Seems a bit steep. I guess that it why you can get a $180k car for under $40k now.
