W208 airbag and steering on W220

I want a slightly smaller diameter steering in my W220 (2004) and I noticed that the connections of the W208 airbag (CLK 2002) are exactly the same as the connections of the W220 airbag. The W208 steering is sligthly smaller in diameter. Will it work? Will there be a "code error" and can it be fixed? Many thanks.

So I read on a German thread (and saw a photo) that there is no code error and that both E class (w210) and CLK (w208), models 2000 till 2002, steering and airbag is plug and play on S class w220. Let me be clear you need a w210 or w208 steering as well. The w210 or w208 air bag will NOT fit on a w220 steering wheel. The problem is that once you do all this the only advantage is that you just get a better looking airbag with smaller buttons. You are not really gaining anything on steering diameter. The "boat feel" w220 steering in any version (including Brabus and AMG) are always built on the original Mercedes core which gives you a finished outer diameter of 39cm. The w208 or 210 steering core is practically the same and finished might be 38.5 cm. So really a negligible difference.
