Thinking about buying a 1 owner all records 2002 s55, opinions appreciated

I've found a beautiful 2002 S55, one owner, recent trade at a frenchise dealer and now in the hands of a wholesaler. It has a beautiful CARFAX history and looks immaculate from the pictures. It has 97k miles, silver over black, all original and asking 10k. I'm not a speed freak, so the horsepower difference between the 02 and 03 is not a motivating force for me and I prefer the simplicity of the naturally aspirated engine. I really like high quality Mercedes cars that are in excellent condition and highly depreciated. I recently got interested in these cars after watching an episode of Hovies Garage where he had a NA 01 or 02 CLK55 and was professing the virtues of the car and his surprise at the lack of interest for such a great car. What do you guys think about buying this S55. I already have 2005 CL 500 that I bought last year with 45k miles in beautiful condition. I was considering the S55 for more room than the CL as I'm a really big guy. Would the s55 still be good for a daily driver and would you guys trust a car of this vintage for long trips. I have recently seen a couple of 2002 S55's with over 250k miles. I have not seen any 03-06 S55's with those kinds of miles. I would get a PPI before buying, unfortunately the car is across the country but I keep thinking about it. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Agree with Plutoe......have an 04 S55 and its the worst car Ive ever owned and Im a preventative maintenance freak and over maintain all my cars (do the work myself). Car has around 140k and was well taken care of previously but its a PITA. Every week something else AND I have the Star diagnostic system. If youre going to do your own work its a must. Im 6'6" and love the car size, comfort and above all the HP and it handles great but upkeep is a *****. I cant trust it to go down to the 7-11 and back. One note, the engine and tranny have been bulletproof (no internal problems) but for ancillary items.
Another note, if you insist on getting one and paying around $10k may as well go with the SC version.....maint costs would probably be the same. My .02.

Guys, I appreciate your input. There are so many conflicting stories out there that it's hard to know which ones to believe. Last year I bought a 2 owner 2005 CL500 with 45k on the clock for $13,500 all books and records and a previous CPO car. I've put about 6k miles on it and so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed,, have put some money into prev maintenance and wear items but that's about it so far. What are your thoughts on a clean, low mileage 2006 s500 with a good service history. Or should I just look for something a bit newer. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
