2007 s550 A.C repair
Hello all first time here in these boards but long time MB owner/driver/home mechanic lol
1993 400e, and a 2007 s550 reside in the garage.
the s550 is a new edition and it needs the AC compressor replaced.
I have 3 options
1. Ebay compressor $210
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0mpre=https%3A%2F%2www.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F3326 31128865
Have friend install it 250$ labor +freon
he is a mechanic for 25 years but has no MB software or soeciality
2. Have dealer put in MB part and install w/2 year warranty
$1800 + tax
3. Local European specialist shop w/1 year warranty
$1600 + tax
obviously my wallet and wife would prefer option 1
but I dont want to be re-doing the job over and over
And I don't know if this job is even do-able by a normal non MB mechanic.
please for my introductory post lead me in the right direction!

Ouch no love!
I decided to go it myself since I can pay to have the job done 4x at the cost of the dealer.
Anyone have a DiY?
searching provided every other make of MB not an s550
need to know if Star Diagnostic learning/break in is required

Recover refrigerant.
Replace A/C compressor. Be sure the replacement has the right quantity of oil in it. Most remans are ready to install. Use new O-rings where lines are pulled. Dab of A/C oil on the O-Rings.
Evacuate and recharge the system.
Check for leaks.
Profit!

Other threads made it seem like a break in procedure through SD was necessary
Glad to know this replacement is very straightforward

The techs at MB insisted that the cars 'needed' to be plugged in to the magic machine after replacing engine mounts.
Is it any kind of stretch of the imagination that MB may also want to have it 'plugged in' after something like an A/C compressor?
