2008 S65 Camshaft Sensor Question

I was checking my IATs today with the Carsoft MB II and I noticed for the B6/3 (camshaft Hall sensor, right bank of cylinders) the readout says "Signal Implausible." Car runs great and there are no DTC's. WIS shows a picture of right and left camshaft sensor at the inside rear of the valve covers. I looked and have one on the right side (passenger) but not on the left side. You can see an indented circle in the valve cover on the left so at some point they must have done away with that sensor. If I look through all the screens on the MB II it does not show a left side camshaft sensor readout (makes sense since there's no sensor!!). Anyways, I haven't found any detailed discussion of failed camshaft sensors (tons of info on failed crankshaft sensors). I pulled a part number from EPC but online at the MB parts sites they say that they do not fit my car but I've run into issues with EPC before so that doesn't surprise me. Any insights from anybody. Anybody ever have issues with one of these and replace it in an M275?

Thanks, Randy

Ever figure this one out?

Hi Randy. Just bought a 2008 s600 and noticed the same issue during data stream....did you ever get an answer to your question about the implausible signal?

Thanks, Jeff

Smile guys.... When I found that code stored away it was due to a front main bearing shell having got spat into the chains for a dozen bent exhaust valves.

Nope... She didn't run. The replacement engine has less miles and burns no oil.

Wouldn't your engine be seized if the bearing shell was chewed by your chains? My engine runs and makes no noise. I just have 6 right side cylinders misfiring??? Was hoping coilpack swap would fix that problem.

The bearing shell between cam chains and crank gear says that she doesn't wanna easily turn. Though she did to remove torque converter bolts.

If you have a bank of six not running with that cam position sensor code I'd be pulling cam covers and verifying cam timing.

In response to the OP I also noticed that iCarsoft reader tries to show the camshaft sensor readout, but in DAS it doesn't exist anywhere.

Considering it was removed from the left bank I imagine the actual reading for the remaining sensor is simply not available to view.

So do you see "signal implausible" for the camshaft sensor using the iCarsoft?

Correct. Signal implausible in iCarsoft. Nothing in DAS.

Good news - seems to be normal! I don't have DAS so stuck with the iCarsoft. Thank you for the response.
