Check the fuel pressure when you're starting it. I'd guess Fuel Pump but that test will confirm. The car will start and run with a bad fuel pump, but it'll run lean on you sporadically, until one day it won't. Occasional hard starts are usually related to fuel delivery. GL and please report back.

You're fine Brother. Fuel pumps don't last forever. There's no real mystery to solve there. Fifteen years is a good life nowadays for a fuel pump. Check it off your list and move on. These engines actually aren't complex enough for a lot to go wrong, the internals are forged, and the computers have been some of the best since the 70s. This engine is just a slight modification from the M119 in my '92 500E that will run literally forever. Once you take care of the supercharger on top and associated pulleys, the rest is very basic and very stout.
