2005 S55 AMG Audio Upgrade

Hello everyone. I know there is a TON of information on this subject, which is exactly why I wanted to ask this myself. Trying to decipher all the information on this topic seems nearly impossible. I have a 2005 s55 amg with the Bose stereo system. As far as I can see it does not have the integrated phone. I’m trying to figure out what the best way is to add bluetooth to my car. Currently I’m using fm transmitters. These would be a good solution, however, they seem to have a lot of static and I get a whine as well when accelerating. I believe it’s an issue with the grounding in the car because when used in other vehicles the fm transmitters work perfectly. So in conclusion, what would be the best way to add Bluetooth to my car, and does anyone know what the cause of the fm transmitter whine and excessive static would be? Thanks guys!

Have you installed it yet? How do you like it?

Looking for a way to get an AUX cable into my 2005 S55 and this looks like the way to do it.

Can you provide any pictures of the install? Also, I don't see one on the website for Mercedes do you know specifically which one it would be? Thanks!

It has an aux port and Bluetooth. I do not have any photos yet so I did look into the installation yesterday I plan on making a video to help other people and the w220 community.

Thank you! That's much cheaper than the $500+ options. Have you heard good things about it?

subscribed. Interested to see how the install goes, and whether I can make it work on my W215 CL65.

Sorry for the late update. I received and installed the mr12volt unit in place of the trunk cd changer and have never been happier with a mod. For just over 100 bucks this upgrade is an absolute steal. It sounds AMAZING and was so simple even someone like me with no electrical knowledge could handle it. If anyone is still interested I can go into details on the install a bit more.

Details please. Plug and play? From back of head unit into the glove box? Or from Trunk changer location? Thanks. This one looks promising.

My cd changer was located in the trunk. The hardest part of this job was removing and reinstalling the frame that holds the cd changer, nav, sirius xm unit, etc in place. I'd recommend having magnetic sockets because one of the bolts is super hard to get to around the pneumatic lines and I ended up having to fish a bolt out from the bottom of the car with a magnet that took ages. Besides getting that frame in and out the job is simple. Remove the left trunk liner. Unscrew the cd changer from the rack its in (after the rack has been removed. Then you simply unplug the two cords. You will have to splice into the power for the cd changer, but they include these clamps that make it super easy. Just take a current tester and check which if your positive and negative and splice the wires they provide in. Then just plug the optic cable from the cd changer and the power into the Bluetooth unit and look for pairing on your phone. Now every time the car turns on my phone connects. It displays the song names on the head unit and I can even control it from the steering wheel. Very impressed.

Yup, thanks. If you don’t mind, can you scan their manual / instructions and attach them here? They don’t list them on the site. Did you run the mic all the way up to the cabin? I’m trying to get a sense of where the thing lives after the install. Like, why not just disconnect the changer from the back of the COMAND unit and install this one in the glove box instead (which would also make mounting the mic easier)?

That is what I attempted to do first but you would have to remove the cd changer and install a connector there to bypass the cd changer otherwise it will mess up the loop. I can scan the instructions but I found them pretty much useless. My messages with the seller were much more helpful. I chose not to run the mic into the cabin but you could if you chose to. I just didn't like the idea of pulling all the interior panels apart.

Same. Thanks. This is really a music solution more than a talking solution anyway. As long as the box can pick up phone signal from the trunk, that’s good enough for me. I was just wondering if I could easily get it into the cabin.

I've never had any issues with the signal from the trunk. You could always try going the route of bypassing the cd changer in the trunk and then putting it behind the head unit but the issue I found there is the fact that the head unit receives constant power so even while the car is off it would be draining your battery. The cd changer power is only activated when the car wakes up (so even just by opening the door) which makes it better on your battery drain. With the recent covid outbreak the car has gone days without being driven and there has been no battery drain that I've noticed.

Update on performance? I'm trying to decide between this and the Mobridge. Thoughts?
