2003 S55/E55 Engine

Was looking into buying a 2003 S55 but I have one question. If the E55 and S55 use the same engines from 2003-2006, Do the 03 S55 models have the same radiator issues as a 03 E55?

My Dad still drives my previous 2003 S55 and it has well over 150,000 miles now with no radiator issue. My 2007 S65 on the other hand has had a radiator issue that required replacing it.

I've only had my '03 S55 for a year, but have not had any cooling issues. Almost 155,000 miles.

85000 on my 03 no issues with the radiator, as of yet.

S55 have an extra radiator that the engine bay of the E55 couldn’t fit. So they don’t have the same cooling issues. The engine was designed for the S/SL chassis then shoehorned into the E, which is why the E fitment is dialed back to reduce load. It’ll run too hot at S/SL power levels. These days everyone has boosted the cooling anyway to remedy these issues. There are other reasons to prefer S over E, as with all MB chassis.
