Oil on spark plugs near the firewall

I just changed the spark plugs in my S55. There was oil on them and I'm concerned. In my C230, that is the same place that the head gasket failed and started leaking. I understand that there is much more heat in that part of the engine bay. However, when I wrenched those plugs out of there, it didn't seem to take much effort. When I changed the valve cover gaskets some time back, some oil spilled in that part of the engine.

So I guess it could be the spilled oil that started making it's way down the threads, or something else. With my luck, it's probably piston rings. Anyhow, here are a few pictures and I would appreciate anybody's input on this.

Leaky valve cover gasket?

I see you said you had a VCG leaking oil? It can seep down into the spark plug holes. It probably doesn’t go into the cylinder but sits there in a pool. You may not have noticed at the time.

If you didn’t notice at the time you did the VCG repair, when you pull ur plug out later, oil gets on the thread. The plug tip looks fine in your picture. No sign that it was fouled with oil or was burning oil.

I appreciate your comment. That's what I was thinking with regards to the appearance of the plug tips. I had to reseal the top of the valve covers with gasket maker because there was a leak a few months back. Both valve covers were replaced at the same time although I had not really noticed a substantial leak from them. However, I had only had the car for a few months at that point anyhow.
