Should I buy this 08 S63 AMG?

A local guy selling has 2008 S63 with around 100K miles for around $17K.

Is the W221 S63 AMG worth getting, being that its a 14 year old car?
I am somewhat mechanically inclined, having done my own brakes, struts, engine mounts etc. But I've only had experience with Japanese cars.

I heard something about headbolts on the M156 and a Youtuber replacing it, and honestly think that is beyond my abilities.

Thinking of offering seller $14-15K, but is it a good idea? Definitely do not want a money pit.

IF you're serious about an AMG W221 S63, READ many of the posts here, especially those by MBG, (that's me):

https://carsandbids.com/auctions/352...s-benz-s63-amg

For instance, here is one relevant post there:

"If this is the engine # of this car 156984 60 044897 it means that the HEAD BOLTS of this and all MB M156 ENGINES with up to this # 1569xx 60 060658 are defective and must have the head bolts replaced along with all other required parts when the engine heads are removed according to the MB technical service bulletin. You're talking about several thousand $$$ here, probably $5K+ depending on the parts required. Since this car does not have any service records there is no way to tell if the head bolts have been replaced. Not replacing the head bolts will result in severe engine damage."

There are many more useful posts there for this M156 engine.
Also there are other online sites where one can check serial #s of the car and of the engine.
And a lot more info on YouTube about the M156.

This helps with the cold engine camshaft adjusters ticking noise but eventually they'll have to be serviced or replaced as described in the link above:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/25560941500...MAAOSwXetZXUSu

IF you buy this or another AMG W221 S63 for $15K-$18K, you MUST BE PREPARED to spend another $15K or more after you get the car to make it a reliable driver.
Again read the above link posts and search thoroughly IF you're serious about getting involved with these cars.
