2006 S65 advice

Hello,

After forty seven years with the make I sold my last MB, a 2010 E63 6.3 four years ago. I took a break and bought a new VW GTI MK7 Autobahn, a superb car for the money, but after four years I miss Mercedes. For a few months I have been looking for a W126 - 560SEC/SEL but when my wife asked me why go back to a thirty plus years old car I started looking for something newer. I was always a fan of V12, I had a '97 S600C. My urologist has a 2016 S65 and convinced me to try one. I found a 2006, please see link, located a few miles away from me, it is being sold by a dealer.

I understand that a set of brake rotors will eat up my whole social security check and realize that I may be making a mistake. I would like to hear from experienced owners of what can I expect from a sixteen years old car with 83K miles and five previous owners before it is too late.

Cheers,

Horacio

2001 E55AMG
As a former 560 SEC owner, current 2001 E55 AMG owner... a younger, well maintained example is a more enjoyable ownership experience than the possible "style" points of a 80's example. Extremely clean V12, still waiting for my chance to own a V12, even after a eruo bumper & light, all black, AMG mono-block SEC... V12 ownership is a box I need to check.

My point of view:
I have owned a 2006 SL55 (W220),a 2007 S65 (W221) . I still take care of a 2008 SL65, a 2008 CL65 and just completed the engine replacement/rebuild of a 2006 S65 (W220) for others.
A well maintained 2006 or newer S65 are fantastic cars and addictive to drive, my ability of doing all needed work in house makes it relative in expensive to own and drive any MB car this however may not be the case for those that take their cars to the dealer for maintenance etc., I believe that is the reason that the records for the car you are looking at shows 5 previous owners.

I would consider buying another 2006 or later V12 myself again, however I have (3) cars just for myself to drive an AMG GTS coupe, a SL55 AMG-P30 convertible and my F250 Ford to haul stuff and I can only drive one at the time and that is the only reasons that I decided to sell my 2007 S65.

In the practical world whatever you own requires attention, my cars are well sorted but when it comes to cars i'm holding the line at 3. Do I regret not having a V12 right now?, Yes. Will there ever be another one, perhaps? Will I own more than 3 cars, just for me? No

If the car checks out mechanically you won't be disappointed by it, can you put positive check marks in all the other boxes you need to consider for yourself than go for it and enjoy!

Best H
