S55 Alternator Change

So after running some tests my alternator is completely dead, ordered a new one to replace.

Since the area is extremely tight and small to work in, what would be the minimal things to remove in order to get the alternator out.
I've seen videos but mostly on S350 or S500 which is little different in terms of the space.

If anyone can give me advice that would make this job little easier or faster is very much appreciated.

Someone wrote this up some time ago and it sounds spot on. I'm in the middle of changing mine and its looking like a good time to change those hoses.

FWIW, removing the cooling fan makes this job a lot easier, not only for getting the alternator in, but you can also access the belt tensioner a little easier. I managed to wiggle the alternator past the hoses. I just disconnected to the 2 hoses above the alternator bracket and pinched them off with hose pliers to avoid spilling coolant. In hindsight I don't think removing them made a difference.

A few tips for pulling the fan:
1. Remove the trans cooling line from the upper passenger side of the radiator. There are "horizontal alignment posts" about half way down the fan housing on each side and it will hang up on on the line when trying to remove it. The assembly can be rotated up and outward after the line is disconnected.
2. The electrical connector on the fan is below the 2 hose clips on the driver's side. Unless you have tiny arms, you can't physically get your fingers on the tabs to release the connector. I used 2 long flat head screwdrivers on each clip, pried inward simultaneously and they released.
3. A few of the torx screws securing the lines on the bottom of the fan housing are in tight confines but they can be removed.

Also, as mentioned in the link in my post above, don't forget to use a c-clamp and 19mm socket to push the bushings outward in the alternator bracket or you'll be cussing when you attempt to install it.

Fan out, lower hoses not removed
