TIRE SIZE RECOMMENDATION FOR 19"

Hi,

I just picked up some 19" Rims for my S55.
19 x 8.5 for Front and 19 x 9 for Rear.

I've been getting conflicting information for tire size recommendations.

245/35/19
275/30/19

245/40/19
275/35/19

What is the correct tire size for these rims?

Some say both will work.

Others say the 2nd choice is right.

Others say the 1st choice is right.

Totally lost.....thanks for any help.

Both will work fine, my BMW is running 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 rears. The S class is a big car, You can even fit wider tires if you wanted to. I run these size tires on my M roadster which is 1/2 the size of your car, they'll fit the S class fine. Your second choice of tires, the fronts in those sizes will not fit my BMW. They are a little bigger then the first choice, the rears will fit my car as well, I was even thinking of running 285's next time around for the rears.

I think 40 front, 35 rear is the correct one.

The only difference from the sizes you specified is the aspect ratio of the tire. Having a greater aspect ratio means a taller sidewall granted the other dimensions are the same:

ASPECT RATIO
This two-digit number indicates the tire's aspect ratio. It compares the tire's inflated section height, which is the distance from the bead to the tread, to its section width (maximum). An aspect ratio of 65 means that the tire's section height is 65% of the tire's section width. For clarity, the section width in millimeters is separated from the aspect ratio by a slash (/).

I like having a taller sidewall because it yields a smoother ride and protects your rims better when hitting potholes, etc. On the contrary, a shorter sidewall yields better cornering and performance, but you'll feel more bumps on the road.

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses.

I think I'll go with the 245/40/19 fronts and 275/35/19 rears.

Does anyone know if I can go larger? 255 for the fronts or 285 for the rears?

I would like to... but don't know what the best fitment is to fill the gap between the wheels and fender without lowering the vechicle.

Thanks

oh...one more thing....Michellin Pilot PS2 or Bridgestone Pole Position?

I would guess with 40 profile up front on 19s, you won't have much room to play with. The last thing you want is your tire rubbing against the fender well when turning - I'd stick with what people have recommended.
