Thanks, its been quite a headache. I’m just wrapping up now and about to start it up to check for leaks (and hope the Amazon pump is good). I had to drill and tap one of the mounts for an oversized M10 bolt, which entailed pulling the fan for access. The threads were so bad that the M8 bolt wouldn’t hold any torque. The pump is nice and snug now that it’s been fixed properly.

So far, so good! No leaks, no noises, no ABC lights! Now for a spirited test drive.

Yes, very gratifying that it's done and there weren't any unexpected problems like leaks or ABC errors.

I only took it for a quick drive around the block yesterday but so far no more stiff steering when slowing down to turn a corner. It also seemed to raise a little faster than before when cycling the suspension height.
The car used to exhibit a side-to-side shimmy at highway speeds for a lack of a better way to explain it. I hope changing this pump mitigated that as well once I get it out on the freeway.

Thanks. Not to stray too far off topic, but my car has the java interior. Does anyone know if the floor mats would've been the same color or black? I ask because it came with well-worn black AMG mats that I'd like to replace with what belongs in the car.

Can't speak for an S55 but my '01 SL500 interior is Java and the floor mats matched the carpet.

Thanks. I didn’t think black was the right color to begin with. I’ve loosely looked for them in Java and I see it’s going to be a challenge finding them

Sadly NLA long ago... but in that color you're more likely to find them than in Charcoal. Not that the OEM mats were worth having. They had this thin foam backing on them that would give way very quickly. After two sets I just took them out and put them in a box in favor of CocoMats. Same for the '05 M3.

EDIT... Geeeez ... it looks like the internet already forgot the AMG mats were different

I did search a little and came up with nothing as well. My old CLK55 mats disintegrated underneath too. I definitely need to replace these because it's reaching point where I can't stand to look at them anymore.

I gave up on my SL500 and went with a set from Llyod Mat Store. Ultimat Carpet Floor Mats for Cars | Lloyd Mats Store Color Code was 620. Almost indistinguishable and good quality.

Tough one Holford, glad to hear it all worked out and the car is back operational. I cringed when i read about the stripped and snapped bolt. What a PITA that must have been.

Back to the ABC topic, I have a question were i'm getting conflicting information for what should seem like a simple answer.

I own a 2004 S55 and plan/need to replace all of the Accumulators. How many in total do these cars have, INCLUDING the "Air cell" and the "Pulsation Dampener" and are they both the same thing? I'm reading 3, i'm reading 4, and theres no clear answer it seems. I want to replace every single "Sphere" that has to do with the ABC system so I am certain all is new.

As i understand it, there are (2) Main Large Accumulators front and rear, and (1) "Air Cell" that comes as a kit from FCP Euro. Is there another "Sphere" that also can be replaced, that will unscrew from the system, such as the pulsation dampener? Or is that referred to by MB as the "Air Cell"? I'm confused as I haven't crawled under the car and torn everything apart to get a good understanding.

I would like to buy everything individually through MBDealerparts to save a few bucks, but i want to ensure i'm buying everything needed to replace all of the Accumulators, Air cells, Pulsation dampeners, and whatever else is tied into the system.

Appreciate the info

- Joe

Joe, there are 4, as follows by part number: (a) 220 327 01 15 -- two of these; (b) 220 327 02 15 -- pulsation dampener, one of these; and (c) 220 327 04 15 -- return, one of these.

All are "air cells", "hydrogen spheres" or "accumulators".

The confusion comes because some people don't call the 0215 pulsation dampener an air cell, sphere or accumulator. They call it a pulsation dampener.

Blame Mercedes.

What he MAW said! Changing those accumulators and performing an ABC flush were my first orders of business. I'm trying to do everything possible to make this car trouble free but I'm still haunted by the PO's neglect every once in awhile. As for those bolts.....I think I was more aggravated by the fact that I had to pull the cooling fan out to make more room for the drill.

Excellent Maw, Thank you. I'll hopefully be tackling this job here soon as the weather in the NE is starting to break a bit.

You may be there Holford. The ABC system and transmission (conductor plates and harnesses gummed up with bad fluid) were pretty much the only things people could foul up on these. I was blessed to get mine in ‘09 while it was still under factory warranty (38k miles) and before it fell into the wrong hands. She’s been very easy to live with.

Just to add some confirmation for others who may be following the post - The "Reservoir"' as its labeled by MB part number on MBDealerparts is - 220-320-04-15

When i punched in the search bar the part number Maw gave for that particular part, "return" nothing came up. I cross referenced with FCP euro and thats the right number. It's labeled by MB as a "Reservoir"

Hope that helps
