My 2002 S55 AMG was making squeaking sounds and the steering was getting really tight when parking or turning it at slow motion. Once it got going the steering felt good and on highways no issues. My mechanic said i had to get new steering pump. Since i couldn't find original manufacturer pump i bought it from buyautoparts.com. the first one went bad with in 30 days as steering felt tight again. they had warranty so i got a replacement sent. Even that one now is giving up. I have already paid mechanic twice for labor. Any suggestions? could it be something other than power steering pump?
Thanks.
Thanks.
If so, the power steering pump is also the ABC suspension pump. They are a tandem pump unit sharing the same shaft. Many of them in the used market are pretty beat up with leaking seals and broken springs on the ABC side.
If your car has Airmatic suspension, disregard the above. Maybe you keep getting crappy pumps.

^^^^^This! Even the re-mans are questionable. If someone knows of a reputable rebuilder/brand please chime in. I rolled the dice on an Amazon reman tandem pump back in March and now I'm beginning to hear some strange sounds from it. It's still doing its job but I have feeling I'll be replacing it again if I keep the car. I've had good luck with Autohausaz and see they sell a re-man, but I don't know much about Atlantic Enterprises https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/A4-003466240180.
From what I recall, new is discontinued and if you find a NOS on eBay they're about $1500+.
