MSRP of the S65 price is getting up there with the exotics... the engine is a beast but older technology and is only available with the standard 7sp auto rather than the MCT. Being only RWD and heavier, it is slower than the S63 from a dig. Other than trim detail and decals, visually there is not much difference with the exception of the leather roof liner on the 65. At about $50k less similarly equipped, the S63 seems to make more sense although both will surely depreciate massively, particularly the S65.
With the C63 and GT, AMG/Benz is clearly following Audi and BMW in the trend towards lower displacement, lower torque boosted engines mated with dual clutch transmissions. Seems likely that the next gen E/CLS models (which are currently not that much lighter than the S Class) will go on a major diet and get the new engine and tranny.
