Looking to possibly buy an S63 coupe or conv. Need advise
Hi,
I was interested in an AMG GT but back issues and having a car I can take my wife in that is comfortable and easier to get in and out of is leading me to possibly pursue an S63. I am looking to get a pre-owned and would like some advise as to which year and what equipment I should be looking for. I presently drive a 2017 911S with less than 6k miles. We rarely take it out due to the comfort my wife's GLE400 provides. It seems like the S63 would provide the speed and good performance I would like in a more comfortable daily driver.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

S63 has extremely comfortable seats with tons of adjustment, plus massage feature which I find kind of gimmicky. The ride is comfortable too, maybe a little less so than the S560, but the S63 handles much better than the S560, although at nearly 2-1/2 tons these are definitely not sports cars.
These are great cars to buy used as they depreciate heavily and fast, particularly first 1-2 years. The 2015-2017 cars are all basically identical with the 5.5L M157 biturbo engine making 577hp / 664 ft-lb mated to 7-speed MCT automatic transmission. The 2015 cars do not have MercedesMe, if that is important to you. MY16-17 cars will still have some factory warranty remaining, unless voided by modifications. Most MY15 are now out of warranty except for CPO cars. I'd definitely consider buying an extended warranty on any of these cars before the factory warranty expires, most because of air suspension and electrical gremlins that are to be expected with age.
In 2018 the cars were refreshed with these major changes:
MY2018 was very brief, doesn't seem like many S63 were made. Few if any used cars available at this time.
MY2019 is current production, essentially only new cars available at this time

- M177 engine w/ 603 hp / 664 ft-lb
- MCT automatic transmission updated to 9-sp
- Updated COMAND and higher resolution displays
- New OLED tail lights, rear diffusor, front fascia and splitter, and Panamericana grille

The S63 is very comfy. If your wife likes high seating but you like performance and comfort, consider the GLS63.

Heisenberg's post said it all -
Be flexible in your search as in
find the options you want and if
the exterior color is not to your liking
you can have the car wrapped in the
color of your (wife's) choice -
The extended warranty is a must when
buying a used S class -

Good luck in the search -

I personally think the convertible single handedly destroyed the sales of the S Coupe. If they hadn't spent the money to develop (what I call the most vulgar car ever designed) I think we would still have the Coupe.
DON'T SHOOT ME. IT'S JUST MY OPINION.

I would strongly suggest test driving the preface and facelift S63 as they are 2 different beasts.
