Opinions on what to do with my 2008 S63

It has 118k miles on it. I bought it used from carmax for $36k with 50k miles on it. It wasn’t in the best shape then, but I got the maxcare warranty which is going to expire now in two weeks.

I love this car. It was my dream car as a kid and I’m very proud of how well I have taken care of it. There was an oil leak at one point that resulted in them replacing the rear main seal and the head bolts. Since then it doesn’t eat any oil and goes all the way between service intervals with no problems. All in all maxcare has dished our around $30k in repairs for various things. All works done at a dealer. The car is in much better shape now than the day I bought it in my opinion. Everything works. Just had a new oem windshield installed. Airbags in seats replaced. Lots of stuff I can’t even recall. Overall the car is in like new condition other than some curb rash on the rims.

But it I am terrified about the warranty expiring. I can’t really afford $10k repair bills. I am hoping I can learn to do things myself and use a local import shop for help when needed. And **shudder** after market parts if I have to. I don’t have a ton of experience working on cars, but I do know how to debug software systems and turn a wrench so hoping some skills cross over.

is my situation hopeless? I could sell the car, but they aren’t selling for much so I would essentially walk away even. It seems so hard to walk away from a car I’ve invested so much in. What would you guys do? I’m pretty sick of a car payment so if I sell it I probably won’t be buying another S class any time soon. What should be the fate of a car like mine?

Seems you got it up to snuff with the warranty, drive the beast and be happy

If you can't afford the repair bills, better to sell now while the car is in perfect running order and good condition. Worrying about big repair bills or shelling out big bucks on repairs you can't afford or don't want to spend on will frustrate you and take away from the good experiences you've had so far. Fixing it haphazardly will frustrate you as well since it won't run as good as it should. Get out while you're ahead,
