Thumbs up OLD Tailight Upgrade - New Info

So pretty much all the threads on this forum (and a few on other forums) have either highlighted owners running into trouble getting the OEM OLED tailight upgrade to work, or announcing success from a specific shop, but without providing any details/shop contact info etc.

Somewhere along the way, I saw that Mercteil lists an OLED tailight upgrade for the C217/A217 (for about $2400 USD). So I emailed them asking about it, specifically if it was plug 'n play, or if it requires coding via monaco or vediamo or xentry etc. Here was their response:

"Generally there is a control unit provided that makes the installation possible in the first place. This control unit is a third party part. This company will have to be contacted in order to make the installation happen.

Here are the instructions:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ART...ew?usp=sharing

At the bottom of the document you can read about making a remote appointment for reprogramming.

PS: If you need the taillights for the US market we have a special offer on a full set."

The instructions at the bottom of the document state: "After adapter installation all will work well, only there will be a few errors on the cluster. For erase these errors we have our own special software, so no Xentry system or online SCN coding is needed anymore. You only need to use Windows 7 or 10 PC (English locale, with- out hieroglyphs, clean English installation) and TeamViewer for remote control."

While I think the OLED tailights are very good looking, I actually like the look of the tailights on my 2017 A217, so not itching to take the plunge just yet. Figured I'd pass this on to anyone else who'd like to though

Great information, thank you. I also like the look of the pre-facelift tail lights, they have a very good style to them that matches the car well. At the same time, the individual wafers of the facelift tail lights is a pretty cool feat of design and engineering.

I got it done by myself this week. You need to run adapter and modify the existing wires for both tail lights and CAN B bus. Not difficult but get my back hurt because of the wiring location ( deepest part of trunk )
