LEATHER DASH SHRINK

Has anyone else had the leather on the dash shrink? I have a 2015 S63 COUPE and just noticed the leather on the dash is peeling back because it is shrinking. I think this odd for car that was originally $194k. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, take it to the dealer (one you trust - if thats possible anymore) and have them replace or order the new dash for you.. That is ridiculous that the material is failing like that. Could be temperature swings but that still not what should be expected of Mercedes quality.

S63 COUPE
The dealer claims something was spilled on it. I know for a fact nothing was spilled on it. It did sit outside in the South Florida heat for a while and it is black. Dealer wants $3k to fix. The passenger side has pulled back and not the driver's side is pulling back as well.

It seems weird that that are refusing to cover this under warranty. Remind them that nothing was spilled up there, remind them that the customer is always right, and remind them that they are a Mercedes dealership and not Nissan!

S63 COUPE
I have contacted MBUSA and they are basically are not doing anything to help. At this point I think Mercedes has enough customers purchasing and wanting to buy their cars that they don’t mind losing a few. From what I understand this problem does happen for people who let their cars boil in the sun, jeeps and Ferraris are very prone to these problems in the dash, but they have stepped up and fixed the issue for the cars still under warranty.

Shocking that they won't take care of that under warranty. Clearly in that location it is a design or materials failure, not the result of abuse or accident/spill.

I'd keep pestering MBUSA. A friend of mine had an issue with his SL, they blew him off at first but ultimately took care of it and gave him a $5,000 credit towards his next M-B too. Hold their feet to the fire!

They did offer $5k towards another s63, but I am not looking for another Mercedes at this time... I love this coupe, but knowing that Mercedes will pull a fast one and not honor their warranty makes it unlikely that I will ever purchase one again...

Did you ever come to a conclusion here or just decide to leave as is? I am looking at an s550 coupe with the same issue. My current CL550 with the designo interior had the same problem and replacement + parts (used/junkyard) was about $1500.

I cant seem to find the part number for the dash cover on the c217, were you able to?

Also, out of curiosity, did this happen just from time spent in parking lots or do you part outdoors?

Would this be the same issue by chance? https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ispreloading=1

NTHSA may be the answer.

All that this effect need to file a saftey claim with the National Traffic and Highway Saftey Administration (NHTSA). This can eventually force MBUSA to at least proove the cars are still safe to drive. REMEMBER TAKATA AIR BAGS! This is how that started.

Speaking of air bags, I wonder if the shrinking defect will indeed affect the air bags on the side for example...

That dog don’t hunt. Where the leather shrinks is not in the neighborhood of any airbags. The leather shrinks right by the windshield. Yup; right there where it lives in what you ask? That’s right.... direct sunshine which dries it out and makes for shrinkage. I’m going to apply products to get some moisture back into the leather, pull the window once it is cracked (for the fourth time... won’t be long now here in Phoenix) and tuck the leather back where it belongs with a fresh tinted windshield.

Glad that it at least doesn't affect the safety systems, and also I wish you success in getting it back to shape.

Apply the goodie and massage it into the hide. (It rubs the lotion on it’s skin)
Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Takes patience. I have brought many leather seats back from dried out hard as a rock dead to close to as when the car had 30,000 miles on it.

Though the photo above of your dash looks particularly bad.

You bet it can effect air bag deployment. I urge all this is happening to to file a claim with NHTSA.
