So it appears they fixed the big problem in the 2016 cars with a 3 SPOKE WHEEL!
Hi,
I have had a 2008 S63 for 2 years but after $14000 in repairs I traded it in for a 2012 S63 which has been MUCH better in maintenance issues, or lack of them. I love the looks and feel of the car except for the awful wooden/leather steering wheel but I'm finally, 18 mos later, getting used to it now.
My 2008 had a leather wheel and felt 10X better in my hands and much more comfortable though the wood wheel looks really nice. They dealer said that they'd swap out my wood/leather steering wheel for me within a few months after buying it but even after a year, they said they never got a leather wheeled S63 in to swap me with. Oh well.
I have 4 more years of warranty left on my 2012 now. I will not own this car out of warranty so in about 4 years or less I'll trade out of my car. I'm kind of looking now for the fun of it. I love the newish S63 4 door cars as they have AWD now and I live in Maryland where we get snow and ice.
In the winter, I literally cannot drive my car if it's bad out at all. The car goes nowhere fast. I thought a newer 2014 or 15 S63 would be better with the AWD but my dealer said that it still would be tough to drive in snow and ice since the low profile tires would never really do that great anyway even with all season tires. Interesting. It would still be better than what I have now, and I know an S550 4matic would be much better but it holds no appeal to me at all. I only want an AMG car.
I have hated the S63 steering wheel I saw on the 2014 and 2015's. It looks goofy and I would never buy a car with a wheel like that due to my distaste for its aesthetic. No offense to those that have a 2014-15 and love this wheel, but this look doesn't work for me.
Then, when I was looking today for newer ones I noticed that the 16/17 S63's have a lovely 3 spoke wheel. Wow, why did they even go to the other wheel back in 2014-15? I don't get it. Does anyone here know why? The 3 spoke wheel, to me, looks MUCH better.
YAY! I don't have to go back to BMW. I really prefer BMWs, have had 8 of them over 30+ years but the newer 7 Series 4 years ago wasn't to my liking over the same year S63's so I switched to Mercedes for the first time.
Now, I can get a 16 or 17 S63 when my 3-4 years is up owning my current one. Unless, I go back to BMW and get a 16-17 Alpina B7 instead. The Alpina's, while super nice, just don't look as good to me though as the S63's.

Lastly, I prefer the look of my wheels to the ones that have been on S63's over the last few years.
These wheels BELOW come ONLY on the newish S65's, not the S63. I like these and would be fine with these. I wonder why they didn't come on the S63 as well in 16-17? I haven't seen one for sale with these nice 5 spoke wheels.
Has anyone got wheels like this on their more current model S63?

Like you I much prefer the appearance of a three spoke steering wheel. Our E63S and SL600 both have a three spoke wheel. My S65 has the two spoke in all leather below. While I do not care for the appearance I find it much more comfortable during long distance drives. The fat bottom grip and available hand positions work well.
You just have to love those 20" split 5 spokes. Our E63S has the identical wheel but 19".
I understood these wheels were available by special order on an S63.

Interestingly enough, I agree on the 2 spoke
I went thru lots of hurdles to try and get my dealer to switch it for the 3 spoke, but then I realized on long drives the way I hold the bottom grip would not be possible

I've got these wheels on my MY15 S63. When I ordered the car in Sep/14, those wheels were only available as a factory option on the S65's in Canada. However, I could order them without any issues from the dealer, so I did.

Thanks for posting these pics of the wheels. Now I REALLY would want them on a future S63 I'd buy when my current car's warranty is up. It's odd that hardly any 2014-2017 S63's out there have these great looking wheels on them.
