2015 s65 - $2400 windshield??

Had a rock or something hit the corner of the windshield today and leave a 10" crack across it.

Called the dealership and its $2400 for the windshield (lane departure, adaptive cruise control, rain sense, HUD). Apparently having the HUD makes it a completely different windshield.

Called a few other companies and they confirmed the price was right. Thats crazy for a windshield...

Question - I have the opportunity to get a 2014 s65 windshield without the HUD for less than half. Is the HUD glass really necessary? Company said it would make the HUD slightly blury.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Wont your insurance cover rock chips??

I would get the $2400 windshield and be done with it, my Allstate covers me and doesn't matter how much the windshield is, I pay $50 deductible

AMG tax

I never understand why people spend so much $$$ on the vehicle then cut corners come repair time

It is 1% of the cost of the car, is that really a big deal

You called around so doesn't seem like your dealership jacked up the price beyond retail

Jenz - there's nothing wrong with trying to save money. If i rarely use the HUD, then why not 'cut a corner' to save $1300. Not sure about you, but $1300 is a lot of money, even for a $230k car.

HUD is only ever really used at night, and if a non-HUD windshield will just make the text slightly blurry during the day, then i'm not worried.

I posted here to get the answer to my question, not to be berated for not paying full price.

Will your insurance cover the original windshield?

Benz may not warranty your windshield and various systems if you replace with the incorrect windshield ... Be careful

Replaced with the correct glass today.

Interestingly (if anyone ever searches and finds this thread), there are newer models of the glass that the dealership will try to sell you (more expensive of course).

Glass on this car was (is) '1301' (bottom left of glass - model # below mercedes logo and text - etched onto glass with black text).

Also $10 for the Mercedes 'signature' logo on the bottom right of the glass. You can try to salvage the one on the old windshield but it doesn't come off right

Glass ended up being $2200. mercedes has a special glue/silicone-tube for installing their glass that takes 2 hours to dry instead of the normal 1.

$2200 + $200 installation.
