Harsh Start from Stop
when I put the car into "S" mode, the tranny seems to engage very harsh, like a thump without the noise. This is the case even if i feather the throttle, just the way it is or something I need to repair?

I would love to hear what owners of early s63's say as that is the very reason I didnt buy the car it was just too much on/off around town. That said you have a high hp car when you are in Sport and 1st gear and hit the throttle DO NOT lift just stay in it. Otherwise start in 2nd. That is a very high HP,heavy car building boost and when you let go the rears suspension and drivetrain react and then if you get in it again you get that bucking. Sport mode quickens pedal response from what I understand and worsens that sensitivity making that on off on off more noticeable.
I had posted that exact issue with my S550 now with a tune. My G wagon was like riding a horse if you lifted or hesitated when getting into it. My wife who has a heavy foot but would get scared would do that all day. If we bought the s63 we would have been divorced.
