I spent 45 min looking at 4 variations. It's nicer on the outside at a distance. Zoom in to the exterior details and flaws begin to pile-up. The fit and finish are not in the C217 league. Some fake plastic add ons, window finish and pillars, the front lights.
Inside it has less room than you would expect from the exterior size. I am 5'11 and 160 lb and it felt a bit too small. Much space is taken by the center console.
The sports seats are fine for people with good backs (not me), and the one with the massage option is also hard, simple and lacks bolsters. So all seats are lacking for me, but at least the non-sport didn't flair up my back like the M8 did in a few min. It's a simple seat but not bad if they added bolsters and made it a bit softer.
The steering wheels buttons are nice but less than what I expected. They are easy to learn and nice. I really wanted them on the coupe build but now I wouldn't add them instead of the heat package. For me they are redundant after playing with them. The GT4S center console is too big and mostly redundant with all the steering wheel controls which are very nice. The touch pad in nicer than the MY 17 coupe but I dislike the drive shift gear there.
I really like the new dashboard screen electronics, the sound of the engine in S+ mode is awesome, and the slippery mode which is useful in WA. I also like that the sunroof opens. Controls for exhaust flaps are very nice!
my configuration was about $209K and with it's pros and cons and 4 doors it is overpriced and far less in look, feel, and fit and finish than other cars I have seen for less.
If I had to pick a 4 door, it would be the fully loaded S63, and it would even cost less. It's far more comfortable but too big for me. We are a 2 human and 4 dog family.
Had I had less titanium in my back, never owned a C217, and would want a family 4 door race car, it might have been an option if it sold for less than 150k when fully configured.
As is, I don't see who the target audience AMG is thinking about for that nice but overpriced E class like wagon with some GT styling.
