Lightbulb Brake Pad and Rotor Replacement 14 - 17 S63 ($1449.20)

Hey guys, I just wanted to share the part numbers I used changing the pads and rotors on my S63. I received a $9,000 quote from MBUSA for the full change, and that's before tax!

First off, I do not have CCBs, just U70 (red calipers) so this should cover most S63 owners.

I will list all of the part numbers I ordered at the end and the links but most likely the links will be dead ends after a few months but the part numbers should get you in the right direction!

My girlfriend and I moved across state a few years ago so I went from working on my 98 Eclipse GSX on a lift in my family's climate controlled fully stocked shops to wrenching on my S Classes in the driveway, this was a bit of a challenge but is totally doable on the ground.

I ordered some adapters for my jack to give me more surface area while jacking/standing the car which made my life way easier and I used a Lisle 24300 to push the pistons back. It should be noted that WIS recommended siphoning some of the brake fluid out of the reservoir before beginning. I did not do this but I did nicely clean around the cap and loosen it.

Front Rotors: 2224212612 I went with some OE from VNE on FCPEuro, PN# VNE-9150. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...vne-2314211812 Price 10/17/22 $464.99/ea

Front Pads: 0004204804 I went with Genuine Mercedes on FCPEuro, PN# MER-0004204400 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...mer-0004204400 Price 10/17/22 $324.99/set

Front Sensor: 1715400617 I went with BOWA on FCPEuro, PN# BOW-A098023 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...or-1715400617b Price10/17/22 $5.89

Rear Rotors: 2224232012 Couldn't get what I wanted on FCPEuro so I ended up eBaying some Brembos. Brembo makes two rotors for the rear, a one piece and two piece. I ordered both. The two piece set was $1200 together, the one piece were $212 together. I weighed both sets and combined the one piece set weighed 4lbs more than the two piece and in the end sent the two piece set back. One piece PN# 09.B879.11 Two Piece PN# 09.C128.33 Do with this information what you will, but so far I have no complaints on the cheaper one piece set. Price 10/17/22 $99.98/ea

Rear Pads: 0004204704 which replaces 0064206920 / 0064209020 / 0084200720 Once again I went with Genuine Mercedes on FCPEuro, PN# MER-0084200720 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...mer-0084200720 Price 10/17/22 $232.49/set

Rear Sensor: 2115401717 I went with Genuine Mercedes on FCPEuro, PN# MER-2115401717 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...sor-2115401717 Price 10/17/22 $6.59

So all together, just parts, was $1699.90 before PA sales tax.

There was money to be saved, too!

Front Pads: ATE-604839 on FCPEuro https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...ate-0004204400 Price as of 10/24/22 $193.99/set

Rear Pads: PAG-355021371 on FCPEuro https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...gid-0084200720 Price as of 10/24/22 $117.99/set

Rear Sensor: BOW-A1680003 on FCPEuro https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...ght-2115401717 Price as of 10/24/22 $3.39

So your grand total could be, before tax: $1449.20!!

Some odds and ends I bought which you might/probably already have if you work on cars:

Lisle 24300:
Amazon Amazon
Price 10/17/22 $37.17

Magnetic Lift Pads for W222: I don't know if it was just the S63, but the magnetic part did NOT work, still fit like a glove in the jack slot!
Amazon Amazon
Price 10/17/22 $8.95/ea

SATA 6-Piece Pin Punch Set: These are beautiful and worked perfectly for getting the caliper pins out!
Amazon Amazon
Price 10/17/22 $24.98

Caliper Brush and Hanger Kit: This was sooooooooooo useful. All 4 of my rotors were seized/rusted to the hub and the wire brush paired with a ton of WD-40 helped me remove them. I'd spray around the hub, where the circle meets with the rotor, and scrub for minutes straight until they were clean. I rally wanted to avoid hammering the hub, for my wheel bearing's sake, but that was impossible. It still took some hammering from the backside - out. Definitely didn't take as much force as my first hub when I didn't WD-40/wire brush the meeting point of the hub and rotor. Just a suggestion! PN# KIT-5470KT on FCPEuro, https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/cal...a-tools-5470kt

Okay, I'd like to add some sort of important notes at the end here. This started as a how-to and as I read my post I cringed at the run-on sentences and lack of show-don't-tell. You could definitely tell I work in law and government. Anyway the 21mm bolts that pair the front calipers to the suspension are really, really hard to get off. I found it easier to turn the wheels so that the side you are working on, the rears of the calipers are turned OUT towards you so you can fit a breaker bar in - and torque wrench to get them back on. The rear caliper bolts are 18mm and you do not get the luxury of turning them outwards so I had to use muscle and shade-tree mechanic "tight enough" for the torque specs. Also - and probably most importantly - the rear caliper bolts (top and bottom) that pair the outside caliper bracket to the inside caliper "holster" (IDK the part of the caliper that actually holds the pads) is tightened via a 1/2" bolt on the outside to a 17mm nut with a shim on the inside. You can fit a socket on the outside 1/2" but the inside obviously needs a 17mm wrench. The shim makes most 17mm wrenches too large to get on the nut!!!!!! I first started to hammer the wrench onto the nut but my girlfriend actually started to hit me with stuff (it's her car) so I went to Home Depot, Lowes, Advance Auto, and Autozone and got all of the 17mm I could find. They were all too big!!!! Finally I set up my Dremel (no belt sander available, of course) and shaved one of my 17mm down until it was thin enough to fit on the nut. Maybe look into ordering a thin 17mm before beginning this job. Like I said that is for the rear floating caliper, not the fronts.

Good luck and save some money!!

Thank you, I would have killed for a full part number breakdown when I started so I figured I'd post this - at least for future me when I have to do it all over again lol!

I just did a pad swap on my 19 S63 but went with ceramic pads. Why did you go with OEM? I found them to be complete dust monsters and actually swapped my pads with about half the life left in them because of all of the dust. Did my fronts and backs for around $120.00 bucks. Rotors were still fine as the car only has 16K miles on it at this point. Also Brembo makes a cool 2 piece rotor for these cars for the fronts at around 400 bucks a piece on FCP.
