The AMG supplement mentions a Race Driving Mode, but I don't see that as an option when changing modes in dynamic select. Does the S63 have that mode? Mine is a 2020

 

No, it doesn't. RACE mode is only available in the S models as in the A45S, C63S, E63S, GT63S and the GTS and above. There's no S63S. For some of the models there's an AMG Drivers Package or Dynamic package that adds things like RACE mode to the non-S models. I believe it's available on the GT63 for example.

Different generation. Yes, the SL63 and SL65 have Race mode. They had a different objective, and the 65 series is no longer. DYNAMIC SELECT has changed over the years, but the S63 isn't exactly a car that somebody would take on a track, which is what the Race mode is intended for. The AMG SLs on the other hand were meant to be used on the track. The AMG Driving Academy used to have an SL 63 in their fleet, and it's now coming back with the new SL.

 

I certainly would not track my S65 although it was a great car to drive to the race track. When I took the Driving Academy at Laguna Seca in 2019 it included an SL63. I did 10 laps in it and liked it better than the GTS. The track performance gap between the GTS and GTR was much greater than I expected.

 

We might have been at Laguna Seca on the same day. I also attended in 2019 and drove the SL63 at the time. It was surprisingly good and yes the GT R is at a different level than the GT S. I've since driven the GT BS at an AMG Driving Academy event in Germany on the Nürburgring, and that's yet at another level.

 

That must have been a fantastic experience in Germany.

 

It was. Took place on the Grand Prix circuit, which I had always wanted to drive. I'd been to the Nordschleife several times before, but never managed to be there when the Grand Prix circuit was open for Touristenfahrten.
