How long did it take you to calm down???
Got my 18 S63 last Fall. The car is AMAZING!!!! So smooth, quiet, comfortable, and FAST!!! Now that the weather is nice I've been able to really open it up on highway on ramps and open stretches of road. While I enjoy it, I know I'm also tempting fate. How long did it take you guys to calm down and just drive it like "normal"???

Let’s see..... My first Mercedes was a 124-036 500E. Five liter bent eight made the factory sleeper hot rod. New to me in 1994. Series of them in between. All special. Today is 222 S65. The answer to your question.... Never. I still pinch myself to be sure I’m awake and this is real. Still apply the loud pedal to three digits daily... 30 years on.
Glad and you are enjoying your daily hit of AMG Crack as intended!
First hit was free.... the test drive.

"Normal"? What does that mean? Haha... My motto is a redline a day keeps the mechanic away . If I wanted to drive something boring, I'd drive something boring, but the point of an AMG is to enjoy the driving. All within reasonable measures of course. I drive normal in town where pedestrians and cyclists are around and in traffic, but on the open road, the occasional onramp, and in the canyons etc. I let those horses lose. Radar detector is a must for those drives .

Freeway on ramps are so much fun!! The sound vibration and the feeling of the car pushing you back in your seat, and the view of cars disappearing in the rear view mirror is truly inoxicating!! But, I'm wasting gas and putting extra stress on the car. Maybe it' isn't possible to "baby" one of these cars up to 100K trouble free miles, so that's not the goal. And even though I only get deep into the throttle when it's safe to do it, I want to also be reasonable, if there is such a thing...LOL
I'm enjoying the "crack hit" a lot these days, maybe not all the way to redline, but I have no idea since the car shifts itself.

When I first test drove my car, at slow speeds, in tight maneuvering, when not fully warmed up, it would bind and pop, and almost act like something was breaking. It was the most repulsive and scary behavior. I drove it like a grandma for the first 6 months. I remembered from my motorcycle days, that the vast majority of accidents (at least in motorcycles) happened in the first 6 months of ownership. I had to prove that the hard way a couple of times before I took the advice of experienced riders, to baby it for 6 months. Here and ther I am letting loose more, but when I do, replays of ham fisted inexperienced drivers wrapping their HyperCars around trees from a standing start would appear in my mind’s eye. So at this point, I have pushed it a little, but not much. I am not so much interested in wringing it out as I am in making it last.

When I said "tempting fate" in my original post, I meant that in terms of getting a ticket. My car feels amazingly composed in the low triple digits. In 2011 I bought a new Jaguar XFR and got it up to it's max unregulated speed, next highest speed run was in my Mitsubish VR-4, 156 mph, that was almost 20 years ago. I don't anticipate pushing it to those type of speeds, mainly the spiritied acceleration runs for short durations, at least while we have nice weather.

Its amazing what a hooligan this giant luxury car can be. It seems like almost every time I take it out, it sees triple digits on the highway. Its so easy to have huge numbers sneak up on you. Try this:
Cruise along at 75 with some open road ahead
Punch it and count to 5
Next thing you know, numbers like 135 show up :-)
