Question Production numbers

Rookie to the boards here, so I apologize in advance if this is a redundant question. I have searched the boards with a few key words and have not found what I am looking for. I recently reached out to MB to inquire as to production numbers for the 2015 S65 sedan (and S65 in general). It took them about a week to respond and even though the reply began with some semblance of excitement...it was retardedly overstated.

"Thank you kindly for your patience with our process. We are delighted to inform you of the information we have obtained. There is no sales or product info available for 2015 S65 AMG. We have notified the appropriate teams within our organization of your request and determined the production information we unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience. Your satisfaction is paramount to us, and while we can't alter this particular outcome, please know we're here to support you with any other future concerns".

Between the purely copy and paste aspect to the message, misspellings, and wrong tense it seems to me that MB USA has either outsourced their CS to a non-US country or they are not hiring people based on merit LOL. I wanted to ask if anyone knows where I might be able to get the info. Would AMG or MB "proper" be more appropriate to inquire about this info? I appreciate any help!

Welcome to the Forum.
We do know that there were 65 2015 SL65's made, of which, 47 were imported to the US. It is safe to say that more W222 S65's were made than SL65's in 2015. Just a guess from years of looking for and buying S65's I would say about double and not more than triple that number in the US, around 100 to 150.

One of our members, Joe Mattioni, spent 6 months finding and scraping all the data to build the entire SL65 production history. I doubt he will be doing any other AMG models. One of many challenges he had to solve was determining the model year. In the US, it is coded into the serial number. In the ROW, only the calendar year of production is recorded.
I am down to three AMG's in the garage, a W222 S65, an A217 S65 Cabriolet and an R231 SL65. Thanks to Joe I know that my SL65 is the only one ever built in Polar White/Designo Platinum White; any year, any where in the world.

We need a Mark Worman from Graveyard Cars, the guru of Mopar, that is his equivalent in the MB space. That guy is like an encyclopedia along with his buddy Tony D’agostino.

I now have data on S65s up through 2019 and am in the process of gathering the 2020 (last year) data for the sedans, which is the Final Edition. There were an amazingly huge number of S sedans produced, so slogging through the data looking for S65s is taking a while.

To answer the OP's @USMCGunner original question, there were 1022 S65 Sedans produced in 2015 with 400 of those to the US.
There were 329 S65 Coupes/Cabriolets produced in 2015 with 142 of those to the US.

The SL65 data has been carefully validated thanks to the help of others, including @VRV000.

The S65 data is still being validated for missing vehicles. I believe the totals to be fairly accurate though probably slightly short of the "real" number known only to MB. The database has full build data on every vehicle in the counts provided.

If you haven't done so, take a look at MB's Archive website. It's the closest to official numbers you'll find. They typically total only by entire generations.

I've since figured out a more reliable way to get model year for non-VIN MB vehicles. Most vehicle build data since 1990 includes an '80n' build code where the last digit (n) represents the model year. Add that single digit to 1990 and then keep bumping it by 10 until it's greater than or equal to the year of the Release Date for the vehicle. A comparison of that result with model years of VIN vehicles confirms it's accurate.
