i know Carlos, you're right, patience. Its a beech tho, the worst outcome besides health, is not driving the car for months. So initially the adjuster comes to ok if it gets sent to a body shop or not? By his first visit can he deem it a total loss just by observing?

 

I'm in the middle of working with insurance on repairs for water damage to one of my rentals. The only thing I can control is how much patience and resolve I can apply to this situation. It's a PITA every step of the way. Unfortunately you're going to be in the same boat for the next few weeks or months. You have clarity about the outcome, and that goes a really long way. My advice; try not to guess at anything, just be patient with yourself and figure out what you really want. Apply that to each step and you'll be fine. Like you know, and your atty has reiterated, it's going to be a battle. It's not because anybody is evil or stupid, each entity involved is lookiung out for its self interest. You have to be ok looking out for your best interest, and be willing to advocate for yourself every step of the way. Again, you're crystal clear about wanting to keep the car.

The adjuster might be lazy or might be super dilligent, you won;t know until you meet him/her. And yes, they will make the initial estimate and recommendation. As others have stated, the laws in your state determine what leeway you have. I think living in CA will work to your benefit in this case.

This is one of my biggest fears driving my car. I love it so much, would never want to lose it. Might try to buy another used one if mine was totaled.

He said he has an active loan, so most insurance companies will issue a check in both his name and the loan company. Loan company typically requires signing the check over to the body shop. Unfortunately, I just went through this with a previous vehicle, not having more leverage with the shop caused so much wasted money in my opinion. The "promised" 2-week repair timeline ended up being 4 months and I had zero leverage to expedite, and my insurance company completely disengaged once the check was issued. I plan to pay off any vehicle from here on out so that I have a stronger position in the idiotic process if it ever happens again!

 

Been two weeks and still havent had the appraiser come to check the car. Extremely slow process. Can't imagine the repair process. Can you tell me certain actions you wish you did with the repair shop that would've made your repair quicker and easier? What would you have done different except paying off car?

 

When my last car got rear ended I went to my preferred body shop and got an estimate, then submitted it to the insurance company, I didn't wait for their adjuster. If the other party's insurance company drags their feet, your insurance company will step in and pay, then sue the other carrier for payment. Waiting 2 weeks for an adjuster is ridiculous! Talk to your agent and get the ball rolling. I assume they provided you with a rental car while your car is out of service.

 

Nope, not yet. Can't tell if they're deciding who will pay for the damages, my company or the other driver's. My insurance said I'm not responsible, wondering if they are trying to get the other carrier to admit fault.

Other party at fault. Insurance came in and approved 37k in repairs, body shop quoted almost 50k, including suspension work

 

Insurance and body shop will do the dance and at the end of the day everyone will feel screwed. But the car should be fine.

 

Wow!!! I knew it was going to be at least $30K, but I didn't see it going to $50K. You were at $10K just for new doors. Glad you got it at $37K, this way the insurance company was less inclined to Total your car. That's some serious work for a collision shop to perform, and make it look like nothing ever happened to the car.

Update

Car at Benz dealership. They have all parts except one, right front drive axle. Cars been there for 2 weeks. They ordered 13 days ago and it's on backorder. They said there are none for sale in usa or europe! How true is this? Are they pulling my chains? They said supply chain still bad for some parts. Realistically how fked am I? Am I gna wait like months for a part ??? Since it's a dealership they will only do OEM.

 

It took close to 8 weeks for doors to arrive from Germany in January of last year, your timeframe doesn't seem all that bad.

Looks like it, so why you think they telling me not available? Wierd? Looking specifically for a right front drive axle.

 

You should send them the link and see what they say. Sometimes they can only look within certain dealer networks or suppliers, at least that's how it used to be. But OEM is OEM. They might run into higher wholesale pricing if out of their "network", but since this is covered by insurance, a couple hundred dollars makes no difference.

 

they gave me an eta, no guarantees, nov 15. Fkin car gna be sitting for 6 weeks at that point. Hopefully they turn the car on to warm engine here and there.
