Amg gt63s break in?

I just picked up a 2019 gt63s, was curious about break in period. Is there one? Is there any service required after certain amount of miles? I was looking through the manual...didn’t find anything. Thanks in advance.

First 1000 miles, no full throttle, no driving above 4500 rpm or 85 mph. At 2000 miles, change rear diff oil.

There should be a small sticker on the upper left hand side of your windshield with this information.

You have anything in writing on the diff? I know my W205 C63s needed it at 2,000 but it was on the service schedule. My dealer pulled the service schedule for my GT63s and the first diff change is at 30,000 miles.

Yes, it's in the owner's manual. Page 138 talks about break-in notes, and 139 mentions locking differential oil change.

On a recent visit to my local dealer, he even mentioned that he will see me back at 2000 miles for the diff oil change. It should be common knowledge among service reps that have experience with cars that have a limited slip differential.

Page 138 of my manual is about the interior HVAC unit. 2020GT63s\
148 have break in notes, but nothing about diff oil

Their is no maintenance schedule in the owners manual, the maintenance schedule my dealer gave me only have this note

2,000 Mile Service
Replace rear axle differential fluid (only C 63 AMG, CLS 63 AMG, E 63 AMG, SL 63 AMG with AMG Performance Package and SL 65 AMG

I cant find anything in writing about actually doing it to a X290 platform

I see. Mine is a 2019. Not sure why there is this discrepancy.

I did some additional research on this. I could not find a more recent on-line version of the Maintenance Booklet, and I'm too lazy to find the one that came with my car... here's one from 2017:

https://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/Digital...ce_Booklet.pdf

Here it says that the rear axle oil change at 2000 miles is "Only for Mercedes-AMG vehicles with self-locking rear axle differential (Code 467 or 471) or AMG Performance Package (Code P30) or AMG Handling Package (Code P30)."

If you search for the VIN of your 2020 GT 63S here you'll see that you have the 467 locking differential: https://www.mbdecoder.com/

Note that the AMG GT 2-door guys don't have to do the 2000 mile diff oil service because their cars have the transmission in the back, and their differential is integrated as part of the transmission. The rear differential in the GT 4-Door is the traditional stand-alone type since we share a platform with the CLS/E-Class.

Curiously, the GT 53 does not have a differential listed in the data card, as if it does not have a limited-slip differential at all. I don't know what the heck is going on there.

I understand the logic, but its being pulled from documents now almost 4 years old.

Just don't understand why such a critical thing would be left out of the manual, and maintenance schedule now if it still applied. Unless something in the units has changed since then which is also possible.Ill be stopping by my local dealership again soon as I am currently at 1400 miles to get more info.

Cool, when you do, ask if they can find a copy of a maintenance booklet that includes the AMG GT 4-door explicitly. Please update here whatever you learn. It would be greatly appreciated!

Got my diff and engine oil changed today, took about an hour and they charged $350 for the service.

Slightly annoyed that my oil indicator says the fluid is at the minimum level though, so I am going back tomorrow for them to top if off.

Might also ask them why these services also came with an additional 2.5 miles on my odometer...…..dealers suck

My dealer always takes it for a check out drive after all services. I think that's a good practice to have a qualified mechanic check it in operation and 2.5 miles really isn't very much..

Good to know that the diff oil plus engine oil change should not be more than 350. I have heard anywhere from 200 to 400 on just the diff oil change alone.

I'm sure every time one of these cars is test driven the break in period is not even remotely respected (speaking from personal experience).
