It was raining today in new york and someone scratched my car with their umbrella, I know it not a serious scratch but I can't unsee it. I'm unsure if I should go to a Mercedes Service since im still under warranty, Or if I should do go to an autobody and get it buffered out or touched up. please keep in mind that this is my first actual personal car so im really babying it.
Most Mercedes dealerships don't have an in-house body shop, so if you bring it to them, they'll just take it to the body shop they work with and charge you extra. Most dealerships do have a detailing department, so if the scratch can simply be buffed out then the detailing guys may do it. Warranty has no barring on this. Give your dealership a call and find out who their body shop is and then just go straight there.
Sorry to hear that but these things happen especially when one starts daily driving the car. Regarding the scratch, run you nail across it and see if it catches it which would show the depth of the scratch. Regardless being it's a black car, any good body shop should be able to buff it out.
Having said that, when ever and who ever you take the car to, don't make it a big deal or show them how much you like the car or else they would charge you an arm and leg. I'd just say, it's a friends car and I accidentally scratched it, how do we fix it or its lease return yada yada.
Hope that helps.
Oh thank you for the fast response and advice! Yeah you're 100% right! It just suck seeing my first car getting beat up. thanks for the autobody/detailer advice I'll definitely going to say its my buddies car, so I dont get upcharged( I'm not to experienced). I ran my nail through the scratch earlier today, and thankfully it wasnt deep at all. Hoping a detailer or autobody could make it less visible to the human eye.
Don't make it complicated. You don't have to pretend it's not your car. I've had stuff like that done on the spot at a body shop. Somebody came out and quickly buffed it out.

this.
OP this looks like they could buff it out. save yourself the hassle from the dealership maybe make friends with a local shop out there.
