Cold Air Intake, Upgrade Tips - GT43, GT53, GT63, GT63s (x290) [And more]

Wanted to share some things I learned after installing my cold air intake. Whether you decide to get a tune or not, Mercedes has a lot of technology built into their control modules that can help optimize the way your car adapts to the install. There was a noticeable positive change for me after updating these in my car, but perform at your own risk.

DTS Monaco:
  • Set "TM Einlass Lufttemperatur Mode" to "Aktiv" in DTS Monaco or a similar program in your engine module (e.g., MRG1 or MRG1AMG)
    • "Einlass Lufttemperatur Mode" translates to "Intake Air Temperature Mode"
    • TM is likely an acronym for "Temperatur-Management"
    • Default setting is "Nicht Aktiv" (not active, guessing for emissions)
Xentry:
  • Reset Engine > Air/Fuel adaptations in Xentry
    • Your car has probably adapted it's air/fuel over time, so resetting the learning process adaptations can help your car re-evaluate and properly adapt the changes you made.
  • Reset Transmission > Gearbox adaptations in Xentry
    • With your car re-evaluating the air/fuel and changes to air, and enabling intake air temperature mode, your shifts will likely change. So resetting this can also help your car properly adapt.
    • There's a way to do this in the car (not using a program). I did both, in case one covers something the other doesn't. Just web search: reset gearbox Mercedes
If you want your system updated, but don't know how to use DTS or Xentry, I'm sure most of the sponsors on this site can do it remotely for a small fee.

Also worth pointing out some relevant info about resetting adaptations, best to know what you're getting into.

Expected behavior while adapting:
  • Driving behavior changes
    • Car may behave differently immediately after reset
    • Shifts might be less smooth
    • Throttle response could change
  • Break-in period
    • Drive moderately for first 50-100 miles
    • Allows initial adaptations to occur
  • Varied driving conditions
    • Experience different scenarios (city, highway, etc.)
    • Helps car adapt more comprehensively
  • Fuel economy impact
    • Temporary decrease in fuel efficiency possible
    • Lasts until car re-learns optimal settings
  • Performance variations
    • Car's performance characteristics may fluctuate during re-learning
  • Patience required
    • Full adaptation can take several hundred miles of driving
  • Avoid unnecessary repetition
    • Don't reset frequently
    • Prevents car from fully optimizing

For the GT53 there were two main options, Armaspeed and Blackboost. Armaspeed seemed to be over priced, I'm guessing because the carbon fiber front piece that I suspect doesn't really help the cold air intake, just looks cool. Blackboost was about half the price, and only focuses on the cold air intake system, so ended up going with them.

Looks and sounds sick, I haven't taken any pics yet though. You can see what it looks like here:

They have the downpipes too though in that video, so sound is more aggressive.
