A stock C6 A4 running a 12.5 quarter? Really? It must be a Ringer because every mag I've seen has it at least .3 behind the SLK55. The MN6 is dead nuts even with the SLK55. I also had a guy run me on the interstate when I was stock in his C6 coupe - he got pulled twice (the first time from 20 - 75mph on an on ramp, then next on a Hwy pull from 65 - 90mph).
He didn't want to go a 3rd time, even though it was pretty close .

FWIW, performance results obtained professional drivers in controlled conditions (ie car mags) should not be discounted. When this info is augmented by real world experience, its pretty solid. The other cars you mentioned will get pulled by a C6, but not an SLK55 (its gearing & lighter weight than the other mentioned AMG cars allow it a faster quarter mile than the C6 - as well as better braking). The SLK loses to the C6 in the handling & gas mileage dept - and its also a bit more pricey unless a loaded C6 vert is compared. See ya.

Well I have to negate Magazine data, If we don't we could do this all day long Edmunds reports the SLK55 @ 13.39 in the 1/4 Motor trend has SLK55 12.9 ect..Magazine data varys to widely.

Also your race against C6 coupe sounds more like another weak driver navigating m6 C6 especially the freeway roll part gearing or not at speed your extra weight and less power would loose.
Magazines are good for reading while your on the John period, The 12.50 1/4 was, Is, from a good driver who is adept at proper launching technique hell it's an A4 w/factory run-craps it's all in the launch for 1/4 results & C6, We have a real hard time hooking up.

Lets agree to disagree, I'll happily meet anybody w/SLK55 it would be a lot of fun no matter the outcome peace out.....

The 2005 A4 C6 w/simple bolt on mods is NO JOKE! Found this tonite-- Car is on Original run-flats w/Headers, high-flow cats, intake, & tune.

He ran a 12.062 @ 116.72 this slip is a month or so old he just reported tonite he hit 11.980 w/160 degree thermostat 3800 stall converter, still on run-craps i49.photobucket.com/albums/f299/dennis50nj/BB.jpg

So you guys better race me soon before mods, cause this is the exact direction I'm heading

Ahhh I think you better get off your high horse now, What are you going on about?? 99% of these kill stories are w/Mercedes that have 5 speed AUTOMATICS or 7 SPEED AUTOMATICS How does that make my 4 SPEED AUTO INFERIOR? What exact transmission do you have in your 1985 mercedes? Is that some secret super canyon runner I don't know about? You really are a hypocrite flappin' your lips like this your 1985 380se has a what?? yeah a 4 SPEED AUTO!

This KILL section has predominantly been about Mercedes w/yeah you guessed it!! AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS! Sorry to disapoint you there Mr. Mario Andretti

Ohh you mean like an SL65, or an SLR, or any Supercharged 55 model? They all have Automatics & quite a few are heavily modded there all awesome cars.

I don't disagree.
Although automatics are easy & create consistant results time after time. And yes Stick shifts are more fun to drive but not in my case as a daily driver it becomes quite tedious.

I just don't get 1985380se dissing automatics here, hell it's not like this is a Vintage Ferrari forum or something

As far as canyon runing "Sure I'd Love to" the more I push this C6 around tight corners she just begs for more.

When y0ur Vette can pull 1.5 gs in the corner Maybe you can run with Me.I have such a car. I wont tell you what it is yet but lets say its less than 200 horse power and weighs 1700lbs. JJ

Those comments were not directed at you personally or to Corvettes in general. Perhaps you are being prematurely defensive here. Those comments were general and, by being posted at MBworld, were obviously going to be read by an audience including plenty of MB owners and enthusiasts.

I have posted before that, IMHO, MB doesn't produce enough and MBUSA doesn't import enough cars with at least the choice of auto/man transmissions.

If you relax, perhaps you will realize it was a post about racing other than straight lines and racing other than automatics. Perhaps only you read it as some kind of a MB-vs.-Vette or MB-vs.-All-Else rant. If you chilled out and didn't take it personally, perhaps you'll realize that those questions are generally valid and worth impersonal debate.

unfortunately, there is nothing like that in houston that is affordable...

That would be unprecedented here on Mbworld. lol.

Speaking of MB not importing enough stick shift cars, I found it a little off-putting when the AMG reps listened to a number of impassioned pleas for such from AMG owners, then brushed it all off with a "we are going ahead with all automatics" statement, with a subtle whiff of "go F yourself"

Out of the box, a Z51 can pull .96-.98 by magazine standards. At Spring Mountain most of my group were pulling over 1G running Goodyear F1 EMT runcraps, I pulled 1.2G on PS2s and instructors with Sport Cup could easily pull 1.38-1.4Gs...this is a C6 Z51 and not a C6Z06!

My C6 approx. lb per bhp = 3, Bilstein Sports, Hotchkis bars, and PS2s I'm a worthy opponent...LET'S RUN!!!

Incidentally, my Hoosier R6 slicks just arrived and I had them custom groove for moderate street use...sticks like a MF'ker.
