Look at this fact. You bought a battery that was undercharged. You think you would of brought your multi-meter to check the next one.

I personally was hoping you could get this done. But with all the basic things you missed your over your head and your ignorance is making you blind...

On top of the cost of the car, how much have you spent so far...including all of the needless parts and gizmos? You should keep a running tally so other members considering the same thing can get an idea of what it costs to get a parts car up and running properly.

A member noticed that I am using prestone premixed coolant.

will my seals be fine if I use this instead of Mercedes oem coolant?

Mercedes coolant is way too expensive. Of course they only want you to use their coolant to gouge you and make sure you go over your repair budget. Good old Prestone works great in a Civic, should work just fine in a Mercedes or a BMW

New coolants are completely different in their formulation.

While you may not need Mercedes BRANDED coolant, you should definitely use an equivalent at the minimum.

Used to be not changing your coolant every 2 years meant you were doing head gaskets at ~80k-100k miles.

With the new coolants, "they" claim that coolant lasts without changing for the lifetime of the engine. (Which implies an assumption that damage resulting from coolant is not what triggers the end of life.)

If they want $50 for what I think should be $8 of coolant, and I get "never have to change it" as a benefit, I'm thinking that's still $42 well spent.

Xpl0sive is correct. Distilled water too please , if not premixed.

Note that you can use any coolant, just like you can use any oil. Most coolants have a similar base and the car will operate. The impact would be premature failure of the water pump, heater core, and radiator plus any internal corrosion, maybe coolant passages and head gaskets.
You can also use my used synthetic oil, it only has about 7,000 miles on it and would likely be fine. You can also use recycled oil for your oil changes, it will save money as well, and the car will run fine, for a while, probably.
I have a 2 friends who never change automatic transmission fluids. The SAAB one guy owned went over 200k without any issues, the other had a Lexus LS that did similar miles before the car was let go, which oddly enough was attributed to never changing the coolant. Part of the aluminum engine block corroded from the inside out and was spitting coolant.

I'm just being an a$$hole :-) . Looks like Valvoline G48 is an approved substitute for 325.0.

Zerex G05 is widely available, meets specs and is no more expensive than any other off the shelf coolant. Also, G05 would have been the factory fill in 2007. G48 is hard to find unless you go to the dealer.

Valvoline also makes Zerex G48, which is the new requirement. Not sure where it's sold

Distilled water is way too expensive! You crazy rich son of a gun. Matter of fact, who needs coolant anyway. Stuff a garden hose in there and fill'er up. Doesn't get cold enough in the West for anything to freeze

Good. Finally, some progress! Lets see what happens after you get the new alternator installed and everything in the engine bay buttoned up.

As for the antifreeze, when I used to do things myself as a teen, I used tap water filled in spring water bottles with the coolant. Don't need to get too fancy.

When do you think it is going to get on Vlad's body shop rack?

Hope the new alternator fixes the issues. You may also want to poke around and make sure you have no shorts, particularly in the rear where the body is damaged. A dead short to ground can fry an alternator and hurt batteries.

For someone who didn't know the basic function of an alternator you are getting snippy. Don't get a big head yet you have quite a way to go and we are all curious what the budget has grown to.

Looking forward to the rack report.

Vlad will get the back end fixed so I can replace the bumper.

Tomorrow is a big day! I'll first buy a trip permit, then go to Vlads(who turns out lives on my street) and get an estimate/fix date. Then get my ECU flashed by MB of Portland.

After installing the alternator, I drove for 3 miles and my MIL(not mother in law) came off. So now there are no errors.

After that I'm buying Pentosin tranny oil and filter kit + Differential Oil.
