I wonder how many lost hours of productivity this guy has caused to forum members trying to talk some sense into him? This may be the most expensive thread in board history as far as money lost....and that's not even including all of the time and money the OP is wasting on this piece of sh*t....which would be a very small percentage of the over all losses. Time would be better spent watching **** and jacking off.

We're now at 35 pages, and I really don't think there is anything helpful that can be gleaned from this thread (so far) as far as automotive knowledge gained. A complete waste of time....yet like a bad car accident, I just can't look away.

Sounds like the $1000 budget is out the door already at this point...

Yeah....but at least he got to drive it around the block a couple of times the other night. $1000/mile sounds about right with his car.

I still don't get why the OP is running around, trying to buy specialty tools, parts, doing (or trying to do) unnecessary maintenance, when the main issue with the car still has not been addressed. Back end needs to be fixed before anything else is done, period.

Worry less about my family, and more about the car.

I'm only worrying about your family because you have no clue what you're doing with your car. They kind of go hand in hand.

I need to fix the electrical before I proceed.

You and Vlad can pound out the dents. Let somebody who knows what they're doing fix the electrical stuff. It isn't going to turn out well with you trying to do it with zero knowledge of the car's systems and not having the right equipment to diagnose and do the repairs.

ok, but why did you order a transmission service kit, tried to buy a vacuum oil extractor, wanting to replace spark plugs, etc? You thought your gas gauge was an oil pressure gauge for crying out loud.

It might be better to learn on a 1960's or '70's car with no computers in them. An S-class isn't the right car to try and cut your teeth on.

By the voltages posted, you likely have a failing charging system. With car on you should be pulling 14v+. As we all know, a bad charging system or battery can cause most of the problems he is experiencing. As to the transmission, if it is in hard limp mode a trip to an Indy with DAS or the dealer is in order. You can only clear this with DAS (Star/Xentry).

I've installed two turbo charger systems which I built myself. They worked well. I don't think this will be terribly harder

Benz55, i think you should at least pay the money to get it checked out, then that would give you a good idea of what you need to get fixed, then you can venture into fixing it yourself. But first find out what exactly the issue is,...........

Once he gets the accessory battery with a proper charge, and possibly the starter battery ( which looked ok ) things will likely look a lot better.

This complex vehicle has 53 control units and you decide to guess and throw parts at it without scanning the vehicle?

I'm surprised Dieter Zetsche hasn't brought him on board as a consultant yet.

I put in the new battery. Same Issue.

If it was battery it would not crank. If it was alternator, wouldn't it kill the battery? That car sat for 4-5 months and fired right up. I'm thinking its something more.

Goosedan is right, I'll need it inspected.

Alx you mentioned "Charging system" instead of alternator. Might it be a wiring problem?

which battery are you talking about? the old front battery was reading 12V right? If so, you don't need a new front battery.
Your NEW rear battery was reading 10 volts. Did you go and exchange that rear battery for another one? Because a new battery should not read any less than 12V

If you really built two complete system's yourself then you would have alot more common sense to see your WAY over your head...
