I am perfectly happy with what Mercedes has done with marketing the GT and hope they do not change it.
Assuming you annualize the May sales, that's about 1200 GTs a year and that should keep this car as a fairly rare sight on the road which is good for resale values and great for owners who will feel special about their purchase.
Personally I do not want the GT to become like the 911 where u see them often in affluent towns driven by people who only bought it for badge.
Remember as well that the Porsche numbers include all the different models. It would be interesting to see how many turbos or GTS were sold as this is the direct completion

This is good news for all of us
The only time I would be concerned if there was a stack of cars for sale, but that clearly is not the case. Given that there are 365 dealers and approximately 1 car per dealer ( new and used combined) available.
I would like to remind everyone that the cars that down the line became the real classics all were low production cars, e.g. Mercedes 300 SL, BMW 507, Toyota GT2000.
Nobody can predict the future, but low production numbers are a good indicator of things to come.
In the meantime we should all enjoy the feeling of driving fantastic cars which are also quite rare. I love Porsche 911 in every form but I have to say that you do no longer give them a second glance because there are so many of them.

90% of current GT owners are not going to own their GT's in 25-30 years when values finally start to hit "collectible" levels, furthermore I am sure 50% of current GT owners will be dead in 30 years when values reach any impressive amount so your post is pretty much irrelevant. I think what most of you should be concerned about are the 20 or so used GT-S's on Cars.com that have taken a nearly 30% hit in the first 12-15 months of the cars. lifetime. GT sales are down 26-40%(depending on region) month on month compared with last year. Also, Acording to Net Star current US on-hand dealer inventory is over 500 cars and there are another 300 cars either at distribution center, on the boat or in transit from DC to dealers. So obviously not all the dealers are posting to Cars.com. So much for you "1 per dealer theory"

I am "para-phrasing" but that is pretty much what my father said in Germany in the 1950 when neither the 300 SL nor the 507 were selling, at the time the prices were considered outrageous.
I have no idea if your statistics are correct and even if they are what does it actually all mean.
To me driving a GTS means: pure driving enjoyment, trouble free motoring and having a car that very few other people have and that gets admiring glances - to me that is a glass half full.
Yes, there is depreciation - but that it is true for every other car other than for really new model Ferrari's. Life really is too short to worry about all that.

Jrcart is distorting the truth. The lowest asking price Edition 1 is 119,900. Assuming you pay $115K, that is 20% of the MSRP of $144K. That is unusual retention for a 2 year old AMG.
I believe the prices will come down quite a bit more by year end with the base GTs coming out but it is far from the 40% claimed by Jrcart as this would mean you could get one in the 90s.
Tifoso48 is right on. Life is 2 short and if you like the GT, go buy one, sit your a$$ in it and enjoy it.
