Would anyone recommend a decent cell phone holder that works in the X166 series? I am trying to avoid a windshield or cup holder mount but I can't find any other workable surface on which to mount a holder.
Kenu Airframe+ Mount. Attaches to AC vent and places the phone in a good position, low enough to not be in the windshield line of sight, but visible with an easy downward glance. (Essentially puts the phone at the level of the Command display.)
Also, after complaints about weak charging from the USB port in the console, I've installed a Aukey CC-S1 dual-port USB charger that plugs into a 12V cigarette lighter socket. (I'm using the socket behind the driver's seat in order to keep the front socket open. 2m charging cable is plenty long.)

Reason: Correcting error on cable length.
For my iPhone 6, I am using the Koomus (Amazon asin B016GNYZIC).
It's the only one I've found that's short profile and does not interfere with the volume knob (hard to get to when the phone is on it, but it does not touch it, and I use the steering controls anyway).
First one I ordered, one of the tabs that slides in the CD slot broke, and they've sent me another one promptly. I've had the second one since around March w/o any issues. Magnet is strong and works fine with even with thick cases on the phone.
I'll shoot a pic if you'd like to to see it on the GL.

Here's what the plate looks like. It attaches to the phone (or case, your choice) with 3M tape backing.
One added benefit of this setup for me is that I also have a small magnetic vent mount that I carry when I travel, and use it on rental cars to mount my phone for music, navigation in unfamiliar places etc.
Here's a similar vent holder like the one I have. About 8 bucks from Amazon:
