The problem with the PCMCIA slot is that if you have most of your songs in iTunes (and they aren't DRM-free), you can't export them in mp3 format. I need an inexpensive (i.e. not the new multimedia crap they want to sell on top of my existing iPod adapter) hookup that lets me browse songs, playlists, etc. all from the COMAND screen.
Is there a converter out there that coverts DRM files from itunes into .mp3 files? Or you can always burn CD-RW discs from Itunes, then rip them back into .mp3. Pain in the butt if you have tons of songs, but it works.
Itunes will also happily take your money to convert all your old songs to DRM free tunes.
1) In 2010+ models the iPod connection/adapter in the glove box allows for everything to be viewed and controlled on screen.
Not helpful with pre-2010 models, or any without the adapter. Or anyone unwilling to pay the awful price to have it added after purchase.

Not helpful to anyone who already owns DRM-laden music in iTunes (i.e. the majority of the market, if you believe Apple's info).

Yeah, I have 4k or 8k songs in iTunes (I forget). Very frustrating to build something for the market leader that doesn't work (old adapter) then replace it with what people want (new adapter) and charge a f**king arm and leg.
sorry to bring this thread up again...having some issues
got the pcmcia card and a 16gb sd card...
the card will read on my laptop when i plug the sd card into the adapter, and i have some music on the card, but when i plug into the car it says "no memory card"...
Can't help you there. I've heard stories of others having problems with certain brand adapters/cards. I chose the combo in the first post because of a previous user's positive experience.

Two things, even though they really don't help your situation.

Below is where I bought mine. The picture in the listing didn't match what I got but it worked perfectly.
the problem most of you are having is most likely you are getting ones without HC suport. Make sure it supports SDHC because if not you will only be able to use up to 2GB SD cards.

it supports sdhc also...plugged into the laptop will read 16gb...i plugged in a few 512 mb cards too, but no luck
Sorry not sure then, I would just try the one he is using if that does not work maybe there is a problem with the PCMCIA slot on your radio
I agree, go with what you know is working for others.
As an alternative, my Owner’s Manual does state that not all PCMCIA cards will work. It advises, if in doubt, contact Mercedes-Benz. I’m sure you wouldn’t be the first MB owner to run into this problem, maybe a phone call or e-mail to MBUSA could quickly put you on the right track.
MB supplies one and I am sure that they will just suggest that. I do not think it's HC compatible because they only offer a 2GB SD card with it and its about $100 for the card reader :\
Available with COMMAND only. Supported Memory Cards:
SD, MMC, HS MMC, DV-RS-MMC, C-Flash*, T-Flash*, Mini-SD*, RS-MMC*, MS, MS-Pro, HS-MS-MG-Pro, HS-MS-Pro, MS Select, MS Duo, MS-MG*, MS-MG Pro*, MS-Duo-MG*, MS-Pro Duo, MS ROM*, X-card.
old old old bump. Anybody know why it wont work for me? Do the songs have to be out of folders?
No, folders are the way to go. Give it a few minutes to load...you can confirm that by accessing the folder menu when it appears and selecting a folder even if music is still loading from that folder. Clumsy and clunky but it's still useful as a media backup...curiously, I've found the same music from an iPod sounds better so media on the card is for emergency use only.
Can't seem to find one, they're probably no longer in production
Well, SuperFastYo.......today is your lucky day. I happen to have one right here.
PM me your address, and I'll pop it in the mail. My gift to you.
All I ask is that you ignore the dirty counter in the picture, and are nice to Canadians
