What does TPMS warning look/sound like?

As I said in another thread I was debating whether to get TPMS for my winter wheels or not (considering the car is leased 2 years)

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the warning looks like. Is it annoying?

For example in my IS350 it flashes for 15 seconds then just stays lit, without any sound. And for some reason it doesn't come up until I've driven 60-70km in the same day, which I always found weird.

What about the C450?

Have you already bought a 2nd set of rims for winter? I'm also on lease and just today put winter tires on my current 19" rims. I don't see the point buying a set of winter rims just for the term of my lease.

FYI, based on my reading and advice from the tire shop I put the same spec winter tires front and back, on staggered rims. 225 stretched on the rear, it looks ok. Based on my research, in snow you want the rears sitting in the same channel cut by the fronts. Time will tell!

Your traction control system might not be very happy about it. Can be wrong about this though, but it was like it with RWD Hyundai.

You mean you can't take it off right away (like for example the Low Fuel message)?

Yes, you can, but c'mon man, you purchased a 60k+ car and don't wanna spend $150 for a set of OEM TPMS sensors?

I didn't purchase. I leased, for 2 years. The wheels will be sold in 2 years.
And the OEM sensors are $90 each.

OP - it's not worth skimping on the TPMS sensors. I understand what you are saying regarding leasing a car for 2 years, but I am sure you can sell the complete set off after you get rid of your lease. I have done that with previous BMW cars. Much easier to sell complete set with TPMS sensors. You won't get all you money back, but it is easier to seel and easier for the next buyer.

I agree. Not meaning to insult here, but maybe the OP is young and should have leased a less expensive vehicle if spending an additional $150 is a hardship.

I was able to purchase five OEM 433 MHz TPM sensors on ebay for a little over $150...now I have a spare should a sensor break or something.

I recommend getting the sensors from EBay for sure, never pay stealership prices. Furthermore I think if you are going to have sensors on any set it should definitely be the winter set.

The roads/potholes/road hazards get much worse in the winter which could lead to damage to your tire that the TPMS would pick up immediately. Saving you from destroying the wheel. Temperatures fluctuate more and it will be on you to manually check your tire pressure using a (preferably) digital gauge. I'd rather NOT be out in the cold checking my pressures unless I suspected something was off with my sensors.

You'll be not only getting safety and convenience with the sensors but like another poster said it makes the wheels more appealing to buyers.

Thanks for the tips people. I ordered online and their TPMS were as expensive as the dealership. Didn't know about ebay selling reliable TPMS, I'll look into it.
Just to clarify things : 150$ or 500$ isn't a hardship. I hate to brag or showoff but I could have paid for this car cash (and the C63S I cross-shopped for that matter). I chose to lease for 2 years because of the mileage we put on the car and tax benefits here in Montreal being self-employed.

I think MASSC450's is a good way to go. Buy 5. If you don't trust ebay, I'm sure your local tire shop will have something priced right in between $150 and $500.

1010tires sell them for $80 each.
