My Purpose Build C63 at Super Lap Battle
Its been a long time since I've shared how far we have come with the project so I though I'd provide an update:
Last week we competed at Global Time Attack's Super Lap Battle Pro Finals after working on this car for over a year. Did well even though we only had one shakedown day before the event. 12th fastest out o 83. Best time of the day at Buttonwillow for me was a 1:50.1. With that being said I haven't driven in over a year and we are still making adjustments to the car. Builder is Michael Essa at Essa Autosport and Weistec help a lot. I can't remember all the mods but we basically are just using the M156 (with a M159 manifold, thank you Weistec) and the Chassis of a C63 coupe and everything else has been swapped out. In addition we pushed the firewall back about 5 inches to push the motor back along with the seating position for better balance. Transmission is a Holinger 6 speed sequential and we are running a standalone Motec ECU. Fuel Safe fuel cell in trunk, APR aero, customer CF driveshaft, race Bosch ABS, KW suspension...man I can't even remember everything at this point. Sitting at 3100lbs (working on that) and NA power of 525whp (working on that too) on a square tire setup of 300s. Here is a sloppy 1:50.1 from last weeks' event...https://vimeo.com/191427197

Thanks everybody. Goal was/is to build a cup car on the M156/C Coupe platform and be competitive and we are just getting started. This is a cool video of when we began programing the ECU. No throttle is used here just cycling through the gears...
Here the rest of m family too. GTS is my Daily, GLE63 is my tow car and the GLA is my wife daily...issues I know. GT3 isn't mine. Too underpowered for my taste.

Friggen Awesome, been following your work for some time when the updates pop up. Happy to see your pushing the platform.
Super excited to see how that SLS manifold is working out for you. It looks to be a great NA upgrade for the M156.

props to you competing in the w204 chassis..... My research says there are other more traditional lower cost options to be competitive.
Got to ask::: what made you go this route?

So far so good. Changes the TQ curve so its no so crazy on the low end which isn't want you want coming out of corners. Still work to do though....

That an honest answer but also the M156 is a amazing engine and the coupe has a great chassis and pretty much everything else was replaced for top of the line race parts.
No one is tracking AMGs on a competitive Pro/Am level either so its nice to stand out. This last weekend at the biggest Time Attack event on the year I ended up 13ish or so out of 83 cars and we are still in the testing phase.
Will start racing with POC shortly and its going to be funny as hell doing it a AMG...

This post made my Friday morning, what an awesome build!
Are those the OEM flappy paddles that actuate the Hollinger transmission, and all controlled through the MoTec? How do you like/dislike the wheel mounted paddles versus a top mounted shifter?

Its actually why I don't come here that much anymore. We are planing next season right now are where I will never stop doing Time Attack we will be doing much more wheel to wheel racing as well as endurance events. Thanks man...appreciate the appreciation.

Yep and they are fine and all controlled though the motec ECU. Paddles are the fastest way to change gears hands down and also puts less stress on the gears. I love it so far. Over the two day event using the paddles was seamless.
