Replacing Wood Grain with Carbon Fiber
Hi Y'all,
I just bought a 2014 E63 S-Model and although it was fully loaded with the Ceramic Brakes and B&O Sound System, the previous owner didn't spring for the Carbon Fiber Trim for the interior. I have been looking around and figured I'd come here to get advice on the best looking solution to achieve a Carbon Fiber look without breaking the bank. Thanks!

Your best bet is to get your trim overlayed with CF or do a part exchange with a vendor. Or you can spend heavily on OEM parts.
I wouldn't go wrap as it looks to cheap.

Carbon fiber has proven itself as a great medium for reducing weight and thereby making things go faster and/or further.
In the case of wood trim on cars, I believe it's razor thin already so there's little to no weight savings.
In my humble opinion, enjoy the wood trim! The factory carbon trim is non-functional eye candy (and expensive though a wrap may be more financially palatable!).

Indeed, the thinness of wood trims in cars means they are really just visually pleasant. It will be easier and cheaper for most of us to get weight savings by losing weight ourselves LOL.

For those who are looking to wrap their wood interior pieces in carbon fiber, here are some pictures of an interior that I did on an E350 that had (faded) wood originally that I wrapped over with in my 5D carbon fiber vinyl material.

IMHO wraps that try to mimic woven fabrics fall short, they look flat and fake looking, no matter how many Ds you add; unless you never seen the real stuff. Not even dyed woven fiberglass looks even close.
I would leave the wood any day of the week before replacing it with something fake.

DO NOT WRAP, go to oCarbon and have it done right. Nothing looks remotely close to the real thing. I bought 5D wrap wrapped a piece and it looks nothing like real carbon. Check my thread, I have pics of my interior

Hear, hear! Unless you have a 2010 E63 with 150k that you bought at the repo auction for $10k I can't fathom who would even begin to consider putting a layer of vinyl over beautiful Mercedes-Benz wood to give the fake look of carbon fibre. These are speciality vehicles that deserve to be maintained at a high level. If you want to mess around with cheesy DIY stuff buy a ten year old WRX.

The wood grain trim is terrible in a car like this, so anything covering that hideous stuff up is a huge plus in my book. If the best carbon look vinyl isn’t good enough, I’d atleast do gloss black or one of the brushed aluminum vinyls that would then look and feel just like piano black or brushed metal trim

For the OP I would suggest having the wood professionally painted piano black or even paint-matched to the exterior of the car, assuming the car is a dark or muted color.

At least the wood is high quality and genuine, not pretending to be something else, but I am not here to start a fight over this. I have owned many cars with wood trim and been very happy with it and my '63 has the factory carbon option.

I've had cars with wood trim as well, but it doesn't fit the E63 and Mercedes shouldn't even offer it, atleast in the brown options (the black wood is OK). Thankfully my E63 has the carbon fiber as well, otherwise I would have been wrapping the brown wood!
