Why I bought a GL550 over a GL350 and GL450
For the last six months I have looking for the perfect GL for the family but the question was: GL350, GL450 or GL550? The best one of these cars is definitely the GL350 but it is so hard to find a loaded GL350. And we all know that you need to have these items in any GL: Lighting Package, Blind Spot and Keyless Go and to find this in a GL350 was nearly impossible. I found going crazy to find this car and dealers would place a huge premium on them also. Thats when I decided to move to the GL450. Even the GL450 was hard to find these options, but i did find some. The ones that did have them also came with the Panoramic roof. I found that the cars with Panoramic roofs tended to rattle more. Not only did they rattle more, but the GL450 had a 13 MPG and 19 MPG on highway. The GL450 engine also sounded way better than a GL350, that V8 hum is impressive. Thats when I found a GL550, you get an mpg less, same terrible gas mileage but you get the wheel flares and the AMG body. Best part is that you get all the options in the GL550. So GL550 it is. Now Just have to get it shipped from FL to Ca.

You'll find GL450 MPG is going to be much better than that and GL550 will prob as well. From personal experience, in the 9000+ miles I've put on my GL, even my daily commute city driving, I can easily get 18-19mpg without trying.

The more options I wanted, the less number of vehicles I was able to find...forget about 450s...even 550s were tough to find with those features and color choices

I went through the same shopping for my GL350 which only last for about a week or two at the dealer. I too would have gone for a GL450 or an entirely different brand if gas mileage wasn't the #1 requirement. I ended up with a very well equipped GL350 (too many options to name) except Keyless Go which I miss dearly. Isn't Keyless Go finally standard in 2017?

Pretty much same thoughts...also, I wanted to have the active curve system and panoramic sun roof...rear entertainment system too, if possible
