Mine failed a couple of years in due to rust. It was replaced under warranty. I was surprised that it would rust so quickly but an independent mechanic told me that he was not surprised. It seems that some moisture can get in and cause corrosion.
I have also received the message a few times when the car was covered in dirt. After a driving through a rain storm my car was clean again and voila, no more warning message and the system was back to normal.

Thank you, both! I didn't know if would be a metal part! Any idea what the part number is and where's it's located?
The reason being is that the closest MB dealership is 6 hours away!

So I just talked to a parts guy and he says they're four sensors two under the tail lights covered by the bumper and two up front, I think he said by the front bumper?
Anyways each sensor he quoted me at $700! Also suggesting to check all the wiring to see if a connection was "knocked" off. This doesn't even include what they said would need a electrical diagnostic with also relearning the sensor!!
This seems excessive, but is this true? Also I have a third party extended warranty. Would this be included, in your opinions?

I would have a OBD2 scan done with a unit that can read M-B specific codes to determine where your problem is. Then contact your 3rd party warranty provider to see if it's covered. Good luck!
