Finding it difficult to pin down all of the fluid specifics for this vehicle? Me too...

Engine Oil:
7.39 Quarts of 0W-40 or 5W-40
7.39, not 7.5, not 8, unless you want a reduce engine oil level light…
Mobil1 Synthetic (Amazon for ~$23 per 5 Quart Jug)

Oil Filter:
MB A 278 180 00 09 (Amazon for ~$17)

Brake Fluid:
Approx. 2 Quarts of DOT4+ (Yes it's a MB thing...)
MB A 000 989 08 07 01 (Amazon for ~$22 per Liter)

Coolant:
Main Circuit – 15 Quarts
Low Temp Circuit – 7.7 Quarts
50/50 Mix Valvoline Zerex G-05 (Amazon for ~$13 per Gallon, you will need approx. 6 gallons for both circuits)

Transmission:
You will need about 10 Quarts total
-7.4 Quarts for the Transmission
-1 Quart for the Heat Exchanger
-1 Quart as excess over fill per filling procedure
Book calls for MB 236.25 ATF, or Shell TF DCT-F3 (impossible to find)
Ravenol DCT-F3 meets MB spec 236.25 (Amazon for ~$88 per 4 Liter)

Rear Axle:
About 4 Quarts
-3 Quarts in the transaxle assembly
-1 Quart in the heat exchanger
MB 236.26 Oil 001 989 87 03, or Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75W90
Looks like your best bet is to buy the fluid at MB

The only place I have ever seen the ~1000mi service recommendation is on a select few windshield stickers. I can't find any written documentation. That being said, I think it is a very good idea to do the rear differential fluid and engine oil at that time. I don't know how much the A service is but I would guess somewhere around $250. After I started digging into the crazy price I was quoted for the rear diff service I discovered the dealer I purchased the car from gave me 120000mi of prepaid service for free so I stopped digging... Ha

wow good deal I have gotten dealers to throw in lifetime oil changes like on my 16 Shelby GT350 to not even first oil change free on my AMG GT and everything in between.
But 120k of prepaid service is a good deal...good job!

Because some people actually enjoy doing themselves, or can be more thorough. I paid about $800 for transmission / diff fluid change at dealership and the service was never performed. How do I know? The factory plugs are marked. I ended up changing the fluids myself and the fluids were NOT fresh, far from it!

Alex, thanks for posting these procedures. Can you please tell me if the vehicle can be lifted with floor jacks? I believe I read somewhere that floor jacks should not be used.

I have added 1 litre of oil in 1,800 miles but quite a few of those were of a heavy duty nature. Don’t think the level dropped at all though at my last weekend track session; I’ll double check the next time I drive the car.

I really doubt a properly broken-in engine is going to use that much oil; it’s just MB covvering their corporate butts.

Are we talking about “home price” or “home location”? $750k gets you the same house in Chula Vista as you get in LaJolla minus the location/ocean view.

Make this thread a sticky?

Great info and discussion; minus the car price versus DIY desire. Who cares. I am all for doing it yourself and doing it right. Anybody carry a shop OBD System (Xentry or the like).

I have a Xentry. Don't really need it at the moment but I may add a GTS back in the family next year.

If you get down low you’ll see there are two plastic protrusions that are the areas behind the front wheel and then in front of the rear wheel area that are to be used to jack up the car. I tend to just jack it up at the rear when I’m switching wheels as you can easily get the front high enough to do both wheels without moving your jack. Btw mine is a low level jack so it’s easier to place.

Hi Alex at your convenience would you please post the procedure to replace the brake pads (Front & Rear) as well as adjusting rear electronic parking brake if needed.

I don't know if a scan tool will be needed to release the rear parking brake and/or calipers.

thanks!

Alex or anyone else, what is the part number for the oil reservoir drain plug? We're suppose the replace this after each oil change. If the oring/unit fails the engine is toast.

Hi all I recently performed the 10000 mile service on our 18 GTC. These directions helped tremendously. It was actually pretty easy to perform.

I will say one thing the book calls for replacing the tank oil plug and i choose not to after going to the dealer and they telling me it was 15 dollars and i looked at it and was like this is silly. It is a plug with an o ring............

I can see replacing it at the dealer since they wont see the car after it leaves but I own my car so I can see if it is leaking oil hence i choose to reuse the plug. Now I did replace the oil pan copper ring on that drain plug.....

I changed the oil in my GTC, Went to the dealer and they brought me the plug. It was 15 dollars and i looked at it and said no thank you.

I can see why the manual says to replace it. The dealer does not see the car after it leaves so they dont want any leaks. I OWN the car so I know if it is leaking. The plug has nothing but an o ring that can wear out so I looked at the o ring and it was in good shape.

I just reused the plug.......

NOW I DID replace the copper seal on the plug for the OIL PAN since that is a one time use item.........

PS to remove the plug you need a metric allen socket. Also have the oil pan raised up a bit since when you remove the plug the oil gushes out big time.

Thanks Katie-

I won't bother going to the dealer for the plug. I have new copper seal for the pan bolt. Appreciate it!

Just inspect the o ring on the drain plug and then check for leaks thereafter.
