Dealer charging for maps update?

Took a 2017 C300 in for the Garmin Map Pilot map update, 2015/2016 NA Maps v5 (Audio20). Dealer called and said they have tried to update the SD card but after 2 tries its (SD Card) wiped out now. I'll see what they end up with tomorrow. Hoping for a new SD card with version 8.

Not sure if you are still dealing with this issue, but my understanding was that you can update yourself if you have a computer and SD Card reader.
Garmin has the software for Mac and PC available through MB website and instructions on how to update.

In most cases the 3 year map updates are not included on the Australian models. Some early builds out of Germany had the SA code to include it and even then I've heard of people being challenged on the matter from dealers who towed the standard company motto on the topic.

curious what is the "VIN data"... on the canadian, the 3 years free map upgrades isn't honored and i am peeved since i tool delivery of an 2017 E300 and the maps are a year old. thanks

Seeing the v10 has me furious considering I was just in last week for 10th time because of my speakers still crackling and again I asked about the map update.

Hey Mass - no, they are not the same (that I can see at least 
). There is an overall COMAND firmware/software and then there is the map software for the Nav.
I am not too worried about the COMAND software itself as I have no issues with it or its performance.
I DO see many, many issues with the maps. Not the least of which is that the content is just really old. The Garden State Parkway in NJ for example, had some exits in Middlesex county changed a couple of years ago and my 2016 car that I picked up in July still has the old exits.
Not out in the middle of Montana mind you, but 15 miles from New York City the maps are wrong on a car that was built about a year ago.
I constantly find missing roads and it also does not announce which side of the street a destination is on.

And it's proving impossible just to get the latest version number of the North American NAV map...Mercedes Customer Care will not give it to me, nor will my dealership.

After complaining to Mercedes Customer Service about not being able to find the latest version number for the North American NAV maps for my car (supposedly the maps are tied to VIN number), the dealership called me just now and said a version 7.0 is now available for my 2016 C450. I'm currently at v6.0
I'll be dropping off my car this coming Wednesday for the map update, and I've also complained again about the COMAND issues I have time to time. They said they would check for updates on that as well.

Map Version 7 is what I had loaded on my MY16 C300 last month.
Navi/Options/Map Content/ Map Version is the path for the person who asked earlier.

MAP version 10 may be in new cars from the factory but not available as an update. I have version 7 which has been updated twice from version 3.3 to 5 and finally 7. My dealer said the next version available as an update should be version 9 and he expects it soon.
In my case, updating the map version required a COMAND update as well, which crashed the COMAND head unit requiring replacement. At least I now have the head unit of a 2016 and later W205 in my early build 2015.

Dropped the car at the dealer today and they advised me I have the most updated map version V6.1 for Comand unit. How can I verify this? A post earlier stated V10.0.

Take this picture (take from a poster above) and show it to your dealer. Tell them you ain't leaving until they give you the update.

Folks, as mentioned before, a little tip:
COMAND has a software version, that reads map DATA.
If you stop asking for a software update, you might get more traction. Dealer SA's may really not understand your request because of the use of the wrong vernacular...
