Not yet. Hurt my finger a little so it's a little difficult to pull the leather onto the parts. But I have a lot more to do before the interior is assembled. I'll definitely post pictures of the process and the finished product.

hi KB, i am currently changing that gas pedal to the newer one. i was wondering, what is the little circular piece under the gas pedal and wire for? I'm talking about the hole where you used a piece to plug. did you just cancel it out? I'm very confused.
what did you do with this wire? where does it go?

Hello
This is a kick-down button.
I have not driven with the new pedal at high speeds, but a member on this forum just told me that he did a similar pedal swap and ended up having to integrate this kick-down button in to the new pedal so the kick-down works.
The new pedal has a kick down button built in to its movement, he told me the car got confused when he used the built in kick-down so he modified the padal and integrated original kick-down button in to it.

From what I understand.....
If you want to use the kick-down button when driving, you need to keep it plugged in and you need to integrate this original button in to the new pedal.

you can't ignore it.
I did the same upgrade and came across a problem & solution. the 230 pedal has a dummy kick down switch (hence no wire plugged into it) in it which causes problems because the later models' ECU is programmed to "kick down" at a certain point in the electronic pedal travel, not by switch. with the new style pedal installed in with the older ECU (which requires a physical switch) when you floor the gas, the ECU doesnt detect a kick down, thinks there is a malfunction and so it cuts off all power to the pedal. dead in the water. press the gas pedal and nothing happens. then you have to stop the car, shut it off and restart to get it going again being careful to not push the pedal down below the error mark till you get it home (happened to me) SOLUTION: I took the kick down switch from the old set-up (the one mounted to the floor), removed the dummy switch from the 230 pedal and used a dremel barrel sander to enlarge the hole where the dummy fit into plus had to cut out on the back so the plug would fit thru the pedal assembly and into the the retrofitted original kick down switch, epoxied and screwed in the original kick down switch into the new updated 230 SL55 pedal assembly. that fixed it. 100% operational as intended now.

AERG500: thank you for stepping in and sharing this information. It makes more sense coming from a person who actually has done the modification )) 👍

I will do the same thing, I will integrate the original kick-down button into the new pedal. I just literally found out about this few minutes before you posted that original question.
thank you AERG500 👍

my G is in the shop till towards the end of next week. when i get it back, I'll take some pics of what i ended up having to do for you guys. Hopefully that will make it a bit easier as I know just simply writing it out is probably not that simple to duplicate.

hey guys, so i extended the wire for the gas pedal and integrated the old kick down button into the housing. a couple of problems, when i was working on the pedal, i removed the carpet and made the bracket. now when i put back the carpet, the whole gas pedal won't fit since the carpet is very thick. another problem, does the newer gas pedal allow enough space for this carpet panel to go back in? because i was trying to put it back and it didn't seem to have enough space to fit. maybe i should cut a piece of the carpet in order to make the whole system fit. very curious...

I personally did not install my main carpet or the under-dash panel yet.
jdbenz500: Can you take a photo of how you attached the pedal in the car.
aerG500: I would also love to see how everything looks in your car when its all put together.
Thank you

I see what you mean.
The top of the pedal is chunky and is hitting the under-dash panel? Is that right?
I think the under-dash panel might need to be modified for the pedal clearance.

yes its sitting higher than usual. ill probably end up cutting a piece of the carpet in order for everything to fit. modifying the under dash panel seems too difficult lol

I see.
I think I might have purchased 2016 G63 driver side carpet. I'll check what it looks like where the pedal is attached to the floor. Ill see if they modified the design since newer G-Wagon's are using this style pedal.
