Got the diagnosis summary finally from the stealership advisor...
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON
WRONG OIL FILTER
HOOKED UP SDS AND BATTERY CHARGER PREFORMED QUICK TEST FOUND
CODE IN ME
P054A00 THE POSITION OF THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT (CYLINDER BANK
1) DEVIATES FROM SPECIFIED VALUE IN DIRECTION OF ADVANCE
DURING COLD START
NOTICED THAT WHEN PULLING CAR IN THE MOTOR WAS UNUSUALLY
LOUD
CHECKED OIL LEVEL AND FOUND TO BE SLIGHTLY OVER FULL
CHECKED OIL FILTER AND FOUND WRONG OIL FILTER INSTALLED
THE OIL HAS A SILVER SHEEN TO IT BECAUSE OF INTERNAL DAMAGE
DUE TO WRONG OIL FILTER.
INSTALLED PROPER OIL FILTER AND CLEARED CODE
ENGINE IS QUIET NOW BUT YOU HEAR A SLIGHT BOTTOM END NOISE
GAVE ESTIMATE FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT
CUSTOMER DECLINED REPAIRS AT THIS TIME
THE OIL FILTER THAT WAS INSTALLED ON THE CAR WAS FOR A 272
ENGINE THAT WAS IN THIS MODEL UNTIL 2012 THIS CAR HAS A 276
ENGINE
I was not informed that they changed the filter to the correct one... Provided 2nd shop with this information and they will do further testing.

I am thinking the dealer technician is correct in his assessment and you do have significant engine wear or damage. The check engine code was triggered by a problem with the camshaft advance/retard functionality. That function is powered by oil pressure. I think it is safe to assume that lack of oil pressure / flow caused the camshaft to not function properly, hence the check engine light to be set. That lack of oil would also seem likely to damage other portions of the engine as well.
How the incorrect filter could cause this is not obvious. But neither do we know what the oil change employee did when attempting to install it, so anything is possible.
I suggest just driving it and see how things go, there really is no downside at this point. That said, open the hood and check the oil once per week. The car may now burn a lot of oil. Or perhaps not.
There are oil analysis labs that can spectroscopically analyze the oil for wear metals if you want a more quantitative analysis of what is going on inside the engine. Black stone labs is probably the best known.
Good luck whatever path you take.

I think determining what the oil filter could have done is the issue, the change place is using that as the excuse. I would think filter material type, filtering ability, flow , micron size ability, are probably the same. So is it the fit that's different ? My 2013 350 filter is just a filter with a plastic housing. So how did this wrong filter reduce oil flow? And there is the Oil Bypass Valve circuit to remedy clogged filters. I'm thinking if the filter fit inside the housing, it worked. then it must have been something like a no oil mistake by the oil change place.

The one OP bought from Amazon, Part number 000 180 26 09 a.k.a MAAN HU718/5X is for 2009-2012 GLK look like this
The one you posted is for MY13-MY15,Part number starting with A276 is different, so perhaps....the wrong filter is used?

Ok the filters are different, but they do have responsibility because what they removed obviously is different than what they put back in.
Mine has a plastic housing, the question is what does the housing do, mine has a small o ring at the bottom and something that sticks out inside the motor. and if that bottom piece activates some type of valve you have an issue. Then you should of had my type of filter? Somebody at MB knows the answer

Was it listed on Amazon for a 2013 glk 350 with your specs? If Amazon made a mistake , I think you could get Amazon to pay for a new motor easily, vs the oil change place. But I'm no lawyer

Your filter for MY13 sure look different than mine and OP claimed that he drive a MY13 as well

I went to Amazon and through tracking down the right filter for a 2013 glk 350 I found Amazon listing the WRONG filter in the list. Amazon does say Check Compatibilty in the Motor as problem can exist. So it looks like both Amazon and that car guy have liability. The car guy was a moron, that filter just can't fit properly. But did the wrong filter cause issues? Does the plastic thing that goes into the motor activate something ?
They all say for 2013 glk 350 4matic gas

Obviously your not the first person to do this since I almost made the same mistake, and filters are poorly listed. But I never thought Mercedes would allow a change in design to ruin a motor. Or is this not true, and it Can Not ruin a motor? And then the filter is not the issue. I guess I'm lucky I bought mine at MB, I did so because I wanted plugs and founds different types for the same motor, I even bought a set from pep boys then returned them. Your motor is a 276?

Seriously, why does the oil change place not have any fault here? They installed an oil filter on an M276 engine that was 100% NOT made for that engine, ever, period. The two engines are completely different and look so different, even to someone that is not into cars at all. Are they claiming "customer brought us wrong filter but we MUST do as customer says and install wrong filter?" You'd think, to avoid liability, the'y say NO, we won't install this clearly wrong filter.
Something fishy here. The engine is 276 and they used 272 filter. Does the place that did the oil change just normally do lawn mower service or something? This is a (not so funny) comedy of errors.
As someone else said, I would just drive the car and maybe change the oil a few times after some good hard runs to hopefully remove contaminates if there are any. If it blows up, it blows up. MB was going to send new engine anyway. Maybe it will be ok?

True, oil change places have a reputation for leaving drain plugs loose, and not putting in oil ,then starting your motor, because they hire anybody at minimum wage. So your not dealing with an educated or caring employee. More likely a hung over moron. It's So stupid the guy pulls a filter with a cage and puts in one without a cage. That may not even fit. So yes I think their negligence is obvious. But would that filter actually mess up a 261? I've not heard of this, and I almost did the same thing. That has to be known first. Just because it's the wrong filter doesn't mean it did harm. And Amazon lists them wrong. Dam what a mess to be in.

As many people have mentioned across mbworld. Get your oil changed by the dealer,or a good independent, or do it yourself if you are capable. Using the corner quick lube is a setup for failure/error.

Either we believe the dealer report that the wrong filter caused damage, OR, are you thinking the wrong filter isn't to blame and perhaps the original shop did something even more sinister to the engine (in addition to wrong filter)? Not sure the dealer will investigate any further, as they don't have to from a legal/warranty POV. I hope the original shop wasn't intentionally shady, but you never know with people these days.

I think what spyked is trying to say here is that the shop, suppose to double check the fitment of the filter and the oil prior to lay down their hands and work on it. Even though that OP supplied his own filter and oil. Either from their professionalism as a mechanics or simply, to be responsible for their client.

It's obvious that OP did not purchase the right filter for his/her car based on the part number provided.
