DIY: C230 Coupe Hood Insulation Replacement
The old hood insulation on my Coupe has taken quite a beating over the years so I decided to replace it with the new insulation which also includes a heat shield over the header.
Here is the new insulation...
Part number for the insulation...
Part number for the plastic rivets...
The old insulation falling apart...
The process is simple. There are a total of 19 rivets to be pulled out. The chances of salvaging them are slim so make sure you order a pack of new rivets along with the insulation.
The new insulation requires 21 rivets... the extra two is required near the bottom of the hood closest to the hood vent. Note that the holes are slightly smaller so in this case I managed to trim away at the peg of two rivets I saved from before and everything snapped beautifully into place.
Everything should line up perfectly and the new rivets should easily pop into place.
Here are a few shots of the new insulation. Hopefully the addition of the heat shield will stop the insulation from curling up due to all the heat coming from the header...

awesome !
I like the "Saprissa-style" part # photos
is this for the C230K Coupe specifically, or the same for C320 Coupes too ?
That heat shield looks like an upgrade.

i've replaced the insulation on my Beetle 1.8T previously and that thing was like $90 from VW dealership. I'm expecting MB would be way more, but would like to know how much did you pay for it still.
what I'm gonna do is most likely jack one off a 203 loaner they still have tho......i mean borrow...

Excellent! You're being added to the DIY sticky! Merged with another related thread from the past, so just putting up the post in the sticky.

Thank you for the merge, Drex.
Carlos, I think the part numbers are only for the C230. Sorry but I don't know much about the C320.
I found some online retailers selling the insulation for about $54USD but since none of them are willing to ship to Canada I was forced to order from the dealer for $150CDN.

Got my coupe done today too - thanks for the part numbers!
Easy DIY to do - hardest part was just taking some of the old pins out.
my original didnt have the heat shield either (does now).

I just removed a rivet.
IMHO you won't need to replace them all.
They are just like the rest of the ones on the car, pull the innner part, and the outer part snaps out.
Pretty hard to break these things.
I'll order a few extra just in case.
I got to wondering if the 2002 has the same insulation as the 2003, different engine and all. When I ran pn in this thread it didn't show up for a 203747
(Coupe w/m111).
EPC shows on of A2036820226.
I wonder if it has the cool header insulation?
Wow it's only 35 bucks...
Update: Just checked the rivet location on mine vs. the photo here and they are the same. So either would fit.
The xtra 2 on the bottom would replace the part where it's just taped down on mine, and curling up.
It's interesting as there are quite a few pn's for this part....
I like the one with the sheild, as I have the Supersprint header, and it looks cool.
Anyone want to go by a dealer and see what the A2036820226 looks like?
Likely just the old style part without the heat shield.

Missing part 02 w203 Kompressor
Interesting read on this thread. I could not see the original pics as I guess they have been deleted but I recently bought 2002 c230 K. After reading this thread I had a look and Under the hood I see the insulation but seems there might have been a part that kept it in place at the bottom near the windshield. I am attaching pic with yellow outline on where it might go? I am not sure if there is a part that is supposed to be there but I feel there would be.
